Remember that florescents give off a bluish light and make colors look 'off'. I learned this in my years as a hairdresser. You had to compare hair colors in natural lighting to get accurate match. They will pull more pinkish, blue color as people look at their skin.
I have them in my salon but would not have put them in if they weren't already there. We also have wall lights and ceiling fans with lights. I love a brightly lit salon. We leave the wall sconces in the hallway turned on 24/7. It is good for security since we are in a strip with full glass frontage and it makes people look when everything else is dark around us.

The idea of lighting goes far beyond that of dim ar bright. You can use lighting as your marketing tool. Example--Theme your rooms...Maybe with a high power bed that is either black or purple..call the room stormy nights and instead of a conventional lighting method use just blacklights..ahhh..Teens and college kids love it, plus you look unbelievably dark under blacklights
