My salon is maxed out but I do have enough room for 4 or 5 chairs and a magazine rack. Also I have 3 JA towers and 1 CalTan Wall display in the open area. All the other products are behind the counter on a mirrored shelf. Keep an eye on your lotions that are out front, but it does help sell if they can feel and touch the bottles. In four years I have not had a big problem with theft on them, Yes a few bottles have disappeared but not to the extent that I would lock them up. 2-3 bottles a year isn't bad in my opinion. Acutally I prob. haven't lost that many on the average.

We have a big waiting area. Sometimes I think we have a bit too much wasted space but some times you just can't change your layout. We have about 10 waiting chairs, 2 tables, drink machine and most times in the busy season the chairs are full. I think a fairly big waiting area is important, people don't like to be all crowded up. All lotion is behind counter though I would love to have it out for people to explore more. Too much theft though, we lost a lot of bottles when we had them all out. Now people ask to come behind the counter and this works pretty well.

We are building 13 rooms but starting with 10 beds..(Sundash)To start the season we will not require an appointment!! The plan is to add the other 3 beds by mid-april. We may require appointments only on our Super Bed(Classic 600)depending on the traffic.
Thanks Scott[ This Message was edited by: Brillo on 2002-01-03 07:22 ] |

Scott...I don't mean for this to sound like a stupid question, but when you say "waiting area" -- is that all you mean? Or do you mean this 11'4"x9' will be waiting/retail/counter & everything?? If you mean everything .. I don't think you will have any retail space at all - I am still new to the industry, I only have 6 beds & my space is 18'5" x 10'...yes, it's a little bigger than I need, but at least I have retail space & also I have seating for 6. I have several lotion displays/counter/refrigerator & seating & when the season starts, I will have room for seasonal items. I am anxious to see what everything else thinks & if they think you will have enough, I might add another tanning room in mine & get rid of some of that space!!!!
