Hi all,

Like the thread here as mucho information can be absorbed for all looking into the biz.

I have been interested in possibly starting a salon but have many questions:

What kind of capital should I expect to have on hand(before loan)?

How much of a loan should I expect to need?

I had a buddy of mine start a salon with a partner and they just winged it half *** and I believe they started with $50-$60k, needless to say the location was excellent so even with no specialty beds they did good buissiness (I think) but the place could have been booming with the right management and more quality time and effort put in.
So ther is some motivation for myself as I have seen first hand that this can be done if done right.

I have a great location for this salon if I choose to do this.
It's a mini strip mall type of thingy with a coffee shop that is being bought by Starbux and they are building a new 24 hour fitness sport in the mall, there is also a community college about a mile away.

I have not seen any tanning salons nearby but did notice there was one about 3 miles away in another strip type mall thingy that was out of buissiness (paint still on glass)
but in a bad location not really visable and with no starbux/24 hour.

Please reply as all info/insight is a help to this newbie/possible future owner!

Keep up the good work around here!

Honey, there are way too many variables to be able to guide you on this. How much is rent, build out, what type and cost of beds, staffing if any, computer & software, and on and on. There are no quick and easy answers but we will help any way we can. Welcome to TanTalk and good luck on your research. Take baby steps until you feel absolutely sure you should sign on any dotted lines.

That's still a question that we cannot answer. The answer depends on your location, your competition or lack thereof, what type of equipment you have, and other expenses. There are way tooooooooo many variables to be able to give you a figure. What my salon makes in one year is not that same as the salon down the street from me with different equipment and pricing structures.
