We use the speakers in each room mounted in the wall at the head of each bed. We also offer individual cd players that can be checked out from behind the desk for people that do not enjoy what is piped in to each room. Before I changed locations I had radios in every room, unfortunately the entrance and the lobby sounded like a mixture of loud noise. This seems to give the salon a more professional feel. I agree not everyone will enjoy one specific station. I try to keep my stereo set on easy rock. The c.d. players just gives them a choice.

Morris & Sheryl,
I just re-did my music situation. We went from boom boxes and headphones in each room to a central unit with in-wall speakers and volume controls in each room. I wish I had done this in the beginning. It has been two weeks and customers. We play a random mix of Cd's and MP3. No complaints so far on our mix. We mounted the speakers at the head of the bed along with the volume control box. The speakers all run from the receiver to a speaker control box so each speaker can be shut off at the main (also helps something to do with the ohm load). Our volume control boxes came from Radio Shack for about $15 each. The in-wall speakers came from Best Buy. We keep our Master volume set at about -25 and they can turn it completely up to that point or completely silent in each room. My son & husband wired ours on a Sunday.
I am really pleased with our set up. No more broken boom boxes and nasty headphones.
Good Luck
Pam

Oh this sounds like such a good idea Pam...I will definitly have to look into something like this....I have boomboxes in each room and sometimes it just drives me crazy when people crank that thing all the way up...This could solve my problem!!!
Thanks for the information!!!!

Having Tan America beds pretty much solves the stereo problem. When I purchased an Orbit I bought a boombox with speakers that could be removed. Mounted the main unit right to the wall. Then mounted both speakers to the bed (between the head fan). Looks like it came from the factory that way. the only thing you see is one wire going to the outlet and the speaker wires going to the main unit (which I put in a wire loom, to make it look nice). It looks great plus it give the client flexablity to use cd/fm/am or cassettes. Don't really have a problem with the loudness issue.

We are all different and my little pea brain can't handle lots of different noises. One sound throughout the salon works best for me. I love our system especially after replacing boomboxes and headphones all the time. Christina, I figure it cost us about $1000 for our 7 rooms (that is materials only since family did installation--that cost me a pizze and some beer!). We didn't even put speakers in the lobby since it is small and there is plenty of sound coming from the rooms. I considered alot of options before I settled on this. We had a knowledgeable salesman at Best Buys who helped us figure it all out.
