When Taking over a salon...

For all the newbies taking over a pre existing salon, I highly reccomend that you do a newspaper ad stating the place is under new ownership. And also a sign in your window.When I first took my salon over I put the ad in the paper and I was surprised at how many people flocked in and told me they stopped coming because of what the previous owners had done to the place.

Did you change the name of the business or kept it the same? Now that we can't get in the shopping center that we wanted I am looking at an existing salon. I will have to upgrade it a bit, timers, computer, upgraded beds, and replace the flooring...but I don't like the current name of the salon. Andrea

You could look at it two ways,, old name/established new name/fresh look and maybe more clients. I kept the old name when I purchased my salon.. Sometimes I wish I had changed it. She had let it run down and it took me 2 years to get the word out that we were bigger and better than before..If you don't like the name, change it and call it "??? tan??? formaly """"tan""" for a while until the new name sticks. Just an option to think about. Good luck

I kept their name kind of... (I had to, in order to keep the phone number) Their name was Forever Tan Plus, My salon Is Forever Tan....
