while doing my business plan I came across a section with regrad's to cash on hand. what I would like to know is do's this means money in savings only? but my question is can you count your Mastercards and visa since they are considered cash on hand as well. if so then I can add another $17,000 to my total savings. looking for a answer from someone that know's banking. thanks

Technically it is not cash on hand. It is available credit. It could be cash on hand if you wrote a check on the credit card account, but then you would have a liability and it would be a wash.

John, go ahead and add $170,000 to that total. I know banking, cause the banks know me, and when I ask them how much cash I have on had, they say none. Meaning I don't gots no cash.

Cash on hand means, how much cash do you have.........., I donno, ................ on hand!

Sorry, this place needs some spicying up, no that's not the right spelling, this place needs some, no, I think that is the right spelling, lately. Lose the soap opera story line and it gets dull, sorry!

Neon - good answer. I love newbies. John sorry. I have to say though I have never done a business plan. Come on though - Cash on hand. When I ask my wife (jump on me if you must) how much money do we have. I dont mean credit cards. I dont think you have to pay the bank interest for "cash on hand". You are from Tenn though so I dont know. Hey your coach been to Alabama latey?

I'm from TN, too, so I know what you mean...

Cash on hand is, just that, and for purposes of a business plan will include cash in banks (checking and savings only), petty cash, and till cash from your register. Credit card debts are a liability, and available credit is not recognized on the books. Ie, there is no way to write up available credit as cash, or any other asset for that matter.

Incidentlly, we have CD's, and even that's not considered "Cash on Hand", because it's on a time schedule and can't be withdrawn on demand without a penalty.
