Norvell: why does it dominate the mkt

Hi guys....so I was calling around to other salon owners for another venture that i am doing and it was really cool to meet all of these girls in the same business as I am in, with the same goals, problems, passion for the business! Kind of like how we are all on here! So I made prob 63 calls in the past few days. Hands down everyone uses norvell. I use norvell! But why?! Is it because there really isn't anything else better out there? I have personally tried everything and I mean EVERYTHING started w infinity sun have bounced around from south seas to sjolie to Vani-t to st tropez I have tried literally prob every little mom and pop solution on the market no joke I am a psycho haha. But I have done this bc I am not in head over heels in love with norvell, I use it and I do amazing tans, but I am still wanting more. It is consistent, never orange, doesn't smell, dries quickly...but these are basics to me, it makes me wonder how come another solution hasn't been able to really make a huge dent in this market? Is norvell that hard to emulate and make better somehow? Are there smaller solution brands that can compare but just lack the funding? I don't get it. I mean is norvell really that good??? Or is everyone just drinking the koolaid bc it's in our faces and easy to buy? How is this market that saturated? It's insane! Thoughts??! My mind is just spinning after my day today it was just norvell across the board and it got me thinking...
I'm sure all of you don't use norvell and have gone to other solutions for the same reasons I have tried other ones I am not saying one solution is better than another....just so confused how norvell just dominates this market big time!!

Re: Norvell: why does it dominate the mkt

We use Norvell for both our hand sprays and in our Mystic booths. (different viscosity of course)
I have tried a few other brands over the years and have always come back to Norvell due to many of the reasons you listed. Number one is we have never, not once, had any client look "orange". For us, consistency is key and we are known locally for the best spray tans around. I'd hate to lose that reputation by trying save a few bucks per gallon of solution . I have seen some brands demonstrated at trade shows and the person sprayed looked terrible.

I am curious though about the new CT solution that claims it has no smell and guaranteed not to turn green in the jug for up to two years. May have to give that one a try.

I started with Norvell, and have never had a reason to try anything else. Only solution I've ever airbrushed with, and then bought the Auto Revolution booth.

Re: Norvell: why does it dominate the mkt

I'm based in the UK and Norvell is available here but it's not very popular. Over here it tends to be St. Tropez and Sienna-X who dominate. St. Tropez is awful, if you look at the ingredients it's full of crap. Hardly any moisturisers in there with the result it breaks down really quickly. Quite often turns clients orange, they've only recently introduced more than one spray tan liquid to suit fair and darker clients. It stinks to high heaven as well. Sienna-X isn't much better, it is highly fragranced and lingers in your tanning room. It makes me feel sick. A lot of spray tanners complain that their throat hurts when they've been spraying a lot of clients. Yet these brands dominate due to a sheep mentality. "Everyone is using it so I must too". I use Unreal Sunless and it's streets ahead of the rest, yet it's a small brand and not well known. Clients who have had St Tropez or Sienna-X in the past can't believe the difference. They love it. I'm happy because that means more clients for me. So I'm sure there will be other brands out there that haven't been discovered yet.

When I started in this business in 2003. I brought the Mystic Blue box 30,000.00. and use Norvell from the start. I can truly can say I never use anything other than Norvell. even today in my 3 Versapar, it is the best in the business and I do a lot of sprays. So when you want to be the best you should only buy the best, this is how you separate yourself from the rest.

I have a Versa Spa. What Norvel solution are you using in your Versa Spa? I believe they have a few different types.

Also, what Norvel 'take home' products do you sell? I am looking for a pre-spray, after spray moisturizer and a after spray touch up.

IMO, Versa 'take home' products are too expensive. Would like to switch to another brand, that is preferably cheaper. And that I can buy 1 or 2 at a time from a lotion distributor when I place a lotion order.

Instead of having to buy a case at a time from Versa. And waiting 2 or 3 days for shipment. My lotion orders arrive next day from Four Seasons.

Plus they were one of the first sunless company that had a good product. And did a great job with customer service and marketing - IMO. And still do a great job.

Re: Norvell: why does it dominate the mkt

I like the Norvell products and solutions but I've pushed myself with newer technology. I've started to become an expert in "color based customization for your skin tone" spraying. I have started to migrate away from the ONE size fits all solutions. I use red, green, violet and am waiting for the blue base to come out. Right now Mediterranean Tan produces a solution with the color IN the base instead of the color in the cosmetic bronzer. Just amazing results. Thankful I can get from a US distributor now. (URI)
