Thinking about switching solutions, nervous!

Hi All!

I have been using Sjolie for about 2 years now and have gotten great feedback from my clients. HOWEVER, I saw a girl that had been sprayed with Norvell and she did look fabulous! I liked that her tan seemed a bit more brown and rich looking.

I never tried Norvell when I was first starting because literally every other tanning salon in my area uses Norvell and I wanted to stand out (even though I don't give out my solution name anyway). It also doesn't list the DHA % on the site and when I called the man I spoke to was very curt and kept speaking over me, he said they don't give it out because of competition. I also tried Jamaica Me Tan back in the day and remember them having a nice color as well, then only thing that stopped me from going with them though was that their solution came pre-scented and their retail line wasn't too professional looking. I'm open to trying any new solution (on friends first, of course) and wanted to know what you all would suggest.

I know there are a 100 threads on solution choices and I've looked through a lot of them, but some are almost 10 years old. We all know this industry is continually changing so I thought I'd get some updated suggestions!

Thanks everyone in advance! :)

If you want to stick out go with Fantasy Tan. I'm sure they are the most expensive
but worth it if you have a lot of competition. We tried everything, and I mean everything, then Fantasy came out to demonstrate and we never looked back. It
did cost close to $5,000 for the set up but well worth it in my opinion.

We have been a Norvell salon from the very beginning when we opened just over 6 years ago. I tried many solutions and would not use any on my paying clients other than Norvell.
So what if you use the same solution as your competition. The spray tech is not the same and that is where you will need to set yourself apart from the rest.

Re: Thinking about switching solutions, nervous!

Did Fantasy Tan stop bashing tanning salons on there web site? I've now sprayed close to 7K bodies myself. I used IS for 3 years and then tested 5 other reputable solutions. I stayed with Norvell they have never talked down a tanning salon either. This past week I did so many sprays I"m exhausted. My phone rang off the hook today all from referrals. I have never done any paid for advertising for spray tans it's all from where did you get your tan. :)

I agree with Michelle I contour every body to what would look best on their body shape.

Thank you so much for the reply! I looked into FT when I first started, but with them you have to use only their equipment with solution and I thinking I'd like a little flexibility. Thank you though!

Thanks for the reply! I agree, the techs are what set competition apart, to a point. However, when clients does not like the color they received from a Norvell spray, I would like to offer an alternative.

Thanks for the reply! Do you have to buy their specific equipment to use IS? What did you think of Norvell? Have you ever tried Sjolie?

Norvell's dha % is 9, 9.5, and 10%. I talked to them back in the days. I don't use them but as a business owner and spray tan technician, knowing the dha% is very important to know.

Re: Thinking about switching solutions, nervous!

Not 1 color is right for every client. Norvell has many different solution colors to choose from and you can also get the bronzing drops to add to your solution for a bit more bronzer if their darkest isn't dark enough.

I agree! I was a little put off when the person I spoke to said they don't give out DHA %'s, especially since they have so many different solutions. Why did you chose not to go with Norvell, if you don't mind me asking? Around here you would think they were the only sunless company available.
