Using blow dryer to dry off

I had a spray tan at one of my competitors and they had me dry off with a blow dryer. I think this is a great idea, but I know heat can effect DHA. Will this hurt their results? I wasn't thrilled with my outcome, but I also don't care for Norvell solutions.

Re: Using blow dryer to dry off

When you get a spray tan and then use a blow dryer on hot heat to dry off, depending on how warm or hot it is, it will not allow the tan to absorb properly on the skin.

Actually at that point heat will set it and speed up the process. It's the solution that will spoil in it's containers if it get hot.

Re: Using blow dryer to dry off

I agree. Especially given that skin is around 98.6 and the "chemical" reaction takes place on skin quickly. Makes sense the product would denature BEFORE skin application with extreme heat or cold as opposed to after the fact.

I always scratch my head at the lengths we go to DRY an air brush...but they come out of the spray booth and get dressed right away. MMMM?

Re: Using blow dryer to dry off

I always use my machine to dry as I go to help set the tan but also to alternate between cold solution and warm air (for client comfort).

I store all my solution in a cool, dark cabinet and place in a travel cooler bag in my product bag. I have seen other techs run their solution cup under warm water before spraying. I've never tried it but I'd be interested to know if others use this method. I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes, if any.

When I was waiting for a replacement hose I did use a portable hair dryer (which admittedly I previously thought a bit tacky) but never say never because it worked well and let's face it I'm spraying people in a tent in their kitchen or hall. If it works....why not...it does the same thing as my machine and in fact it probably saves time and the client can target areas that feel damp.

Once I received my new hose I stopped as I am mobile every piece of equipment etc. takes up space and complicates the process.

Don't some of the spray booths have a drying step?

Re: Using blow dryer to dry off

While I am tanning a client, I spray and dry intermittently. I use warm air from my hose and cold air as well from the gun. Remember that warm air does brings on a client feeling tacky, that goes for a blow dryer too. So do both, warm air and cold air.

Re: Using blow dryer to dry off

I'm based in the UK and for sure during the winter I'd never need to dry anyone off. Clients are screaming with the cold lol. So I'm assuming you guys are in hot areas? My solution dries very quickly in any case. In the summer I might use a fan but not in the winter - I wish!
