Spray tan safety and how to respond to negative press

We are in the process of launching a mobile spray tan business and a few concerns have come up regarding the safety of our technicians (we have two, but plan on hiring more over the next few months) and the 2012 press surrounding the dangers of inhaling DHA. We have all of the safety supplies necessary to offer our clients (eye covers, nasal plugs, lip balm, etc.), but when serving large groups like we will be, how do we best protect our staff? Also, how do you respond to clients who refer to the inhalation dangers? Any help/advice is much appreciated.

Re: Spray tan safety and how to respond to negative press

I use a face mask every time I spray. I ordered it from Northern Safety. I also offer everyone the nasal plugs, lip balm, and eye covers and encourage them to breathe through their nose throughout the spray if they are worried about inhaling it. I would definitely have your technicians wearing a mask.

Re: Spray tan safety and how to respond to negative press

Thank you so much for your feedback. We hosted a party a few weeks ago and wore the masks and none of our clients even questioned it. We decided we would be open and honest with our customers from the get-go and let them know our consistent exposure was cause for taking precautionary measures. All seems to be fine and I think they appreciate our openness on the issue.
