Paint roller and powder
 

Im just curious as to why you would use a paint roller during the application? Also, do any of you use a powder afterwards to help eliminate the sticky feeling the client has?

Roller? New one on me. Please give a bit more detail.

Personally I would avoid powder and use air and/or low heat to dry them, never let them sweat.

Check out this website. The sponge roller in this picture is what i 've seen people incorporate in their spray tans. not sure why they do, thats why I ask...? I've heard people also use the powder with a lavender scent (baby powder) to mask the odor or the solution.

Ah.. That makes much more sense now. That is for Competition "paint" (that is what I call that stuff); for body builders and shows. I have watched them put that stuff on with foam paint brushes before. A very, Very narrow niche in this business but can be quite profitable if you are good at it and want to travel. One of my competitors’ does this and she is very good and has quite a business from it.

The baby power for smell issues would not be needed if you use a solution that does not stink. We use California tan and never have issues of "smell".

All sunless w/DHA will have a bit of a burnt caramel smell as it develops since it is a 3 carbon sugar. Some are not bad at all and others will make you want to gag.

I have never used one of those rollers, would it help make for a better application in the neck area?

IMO, no

If you have a good HV/LP system, you should not need any additional application devices.

You could always experiment on friends and see.

Yes the roller is for competition tanning but from experience, the roller in the picture is the wrong one to use and I've been doing competition tanning since 2011. There are rollers that are like a soft material not foam.

I do use powder on underarms, elbows, back of knees, neck area, under cleavage and buttocks if necessary. I think I read somewhere that it helps prevent creasing and in my opinion just helps clients feel comfortable while they wait to rinse. Especially good in the spa when clients dress immediately and are not at home.

I was also curious about the "rollers" and bought some inexpensive foam ones and they DID NOT work at all. I would try the ones PARADISE BRONZE mentioned if I could find them.

What I found very useful in the beginning are the Velvotan Mitts. St. Tropez also has them however as I learned the hard way sometimes the very tools you use to "correct" an issue can cause an even bigger issue. If you spray too close or your gun splatters you maybe better off re-distributing solution or setting it with the air from the gun.
