Re: Is a Spray Booth worth it?

Peach I am with you on not buying new, when first got into business 11 years ago, I brought new and at a hefty price, we all did at one time or another. But that said, most people dont have what we know , and there force to buy new.(no problem for a few months....lol).for those of us who know how to fix equipment ,move ,and set up we are ahead of the game, but it came with owning or like me electrician, carpenter, plumber, sheet rocker, mud, framer, someone that can fix just about anything.

Learning the business of tanning is really important. You don't have to know how to do everything. You just need to know the true value of equipment and services and not overpay for things.

I agree that $25K is a high price tag for any Sunless Machine, but that is the going price.
Back in 2004 I bought a new mystic for $30k and it easily brought in over 30k in way less than 10 months as I recall. So, nearly 10 years later that danged thing still making us monies. I have single session beds going for $25 each, and by far, mystic outsells the beds in single sessions of the $25. Personally I hate it, but can't afford to get rid of it. It's like the energizer bunny...just keeps going and going...$25...$25....$25...which is really $31.36 each time with packet of base accelerator.

We paid off our two $30k VersaPROs in about 9 months. I couldn't imagine only having one.

You all must be living in the 80's still. I would never open a solon without at least 1 or 2 spray booths. The guy at Heartland is telling the truth, except his #'s are on the low side. All of our stores do a min of 250 sprays a MONTH, and some do 500. Why do you think Sun Tan City puts 3-4 spray machines in each sore. Your missing the boat. and no I don't sell the units. We have 11 stores with 13 spray machines. 4 of them are Pura, but soon will all be Pura. Your missing the boat if you don't have one. :)

What is your business goal? To; a) pay off a 30k piece of equipment, or b) to make money. Next year they will be telling you that you couldn't possibly run a salon without the next great wiz bang spray tanning booth. Then you will spend the next 9 months paying it off.....anyone but me see a pattern here?

IMO: As far as results, Pura smokes the Versa all day long, I have tried both. Not at all impressed with the Versa units. Pura does have its issues however.

In a roundtable this morning, a guy who runs a machine shop was mentioning how you could milk an old screw machine for decades, now you must have updated equipment to be relevant; thus almost always some sort of lease on the books.

Different industry, same thing

Not saying you cannot keep running old machinery, but rather you will narrow the type and amount of customers who will use your services and eventually become irrelevant.

Re: Is a Spray Booth worth it?

I am all for Spray tanning as a revenue stream; I have always been against the over priced, over promised results of the equipment in the indoor tanning business. Spray tanning included. If equipment gives good results and is still popular with customers, why would you spend that kind of money (unless you need a tax deduction)
