how seasonal is sunless?

I just purchased a mystic hd, that I had delivered and set up in Mid December. I'm pretty pleased with the results from the spray, but I am having trouble getting people very interested in trying it.
My uv tanning is, I assume like most, very busy in the spring. My question is, Does sunless tend to be just as seasonal. I suppose as business grows and more people learn about it, I will get the vacationers , wedding parties, pageants and such, but I am a little dissappointed that it is slow to catch on. Anyone offering any advice or imput would be much appreciated. FYI, I am offering the Buy one get one free business cards. and just starting to do newspaper and billboard advertising. I also offer discounted mystic to my uv
tanning package customers and also to my healthclub members.

Re: how seasonal is sunless?

We have a Mystic and while we do well in the first half of the year we just about doubled our sessions from 7/1-12/31.

Sounds like you are on the right track with offering it at reduced prices for your members. Back in the late spring we did a few things to generate more interest- we did 2 for 1 with a friend which was fun because they had fun together. We did Mystic Mondays for a month in May for $10. That got a lot of people to try it out and then we rolled out Mystic EFTS and packages. We did a lot of other stuff but those 2 got people in the machine and when they got out I was there to close 'em :)

My advice would be since this is brand new to them- introduce the Mystic and products all at once. If you get them in the Mystic and are not offering product deals or free samples of products it is hard to convince them why they need products down the line. Buy 3 sessions get 3 samples free. Or buy this package and get this product combo for XX or buy this product combo get XX Mystics.

And make sure your staff is using it... get them in to spray. Use them in some before and after pics that you can post. Customers really like seeing the before and afters of the staff they know- and it opens up the conversation.

Re: how seasonal is sunless?

Thank Mary, it sounds positive that your volume double during the last half of the year, but does it increase dramatically as you leave winter months and get into march ,April and may? Also our uv tanning drops off after Memorial Day, and by 4th of July iy is pretty much over. On the surface it would seem sunless would hold up better during summer, and I guess from your statement that business improved from July on, that is a fair assumption?

Re: how seasonal is sunless?

It is a gradual increase and judging from December a gradual decrease. Our busiest months for Mystics were Sept-Dec.

Our UV starts to fade in July or so but it seemed our other services picked up- Mystic, new airbrush tans and body wraps. Our unique client number increased when compared to 2011 so while not as many people were UV tanning in our slower times, they were doing something with us :)

We are 1 year in from taking over so we are learning the curve in this store.

Re: how seasonal is sunless?

I have sunless only salons. It starts to slow in nov, picks up in Feb. Yes we get holiday sprays, but not as many people are coming in for weekly sprays when they are wearing so much clothes.

Re: how seasonal is sunless?

I have a sunless only salon and I am busy Sept-Nov and then I have sporadic tans through Dec/Jan and I really pick up Feb-May (I do about 200 custom sprays a month those months) and slow down June-Sept again.
