Pregnant Spray Tech.

What precautions do the industry pro's feel a pregnant woman should take when applying spray tans on multiple customers a day? I have read all i can on DHA and the lack of studies. I would really like a mom's perspective, what you did an why? Also how late into your pregnancy did you continue to work cleaning beds, spray tanning etc.. at 19 weeks my back is already stating to bug me and i can't image how i will feel when we get busy and i am a month further along.

Re: Pregnant Spray Tech.

I am probably not the right one to answer but the things I decided to give up one year of my life to for the entire future of my child's life was not hard for me to choose. I would give up anything that I had any doubts about.

Re: Pregnant Spray Tech.

Not so sure the spray is dangerous you can wear a filter. But the physical part can be difficult and should be discussed with your doctor.

One employee did them until maybe 5ish and it was the physical part that stopped her doing many things at salon.

Id think sanitizer is probably a magnitude worse and should also be discussed.

Re: Pregnant Spray Tech.

First...Have her talk to her doctor about it all.
The bed cleaning is up to her how she can handle the bending over.
I had one employee work till she dropped the baby, but another one she stopped working at 4 months.
On the spray tanning of clients...I would caution on having her spray clients.
IF anything would happen to go wrong with her baby YOU will be the first to blame.
And most doctors don't understand the concept of airbrush tanning anyway. Also 99%
of doctors won't even let their patient to have an airbrush tan their first trimester.
So why put her in harms way of posssibly breathing in the mist. even if she has a mask on..I would not put myself in this situation.

The physical part would have nothing to do with it if you stay fit. Again another choice for the rest of someone's life. I did a physical job up until the evening before my sons were born.

I would agree with a mouth filter and the best filtration system you can find if you can't do another job during this time.

Re: Pregnant Spray Tech.

First and foremost consult your physician. I would also recommend getting a list of ingredients that are in the solution you are using to share with your physician. Whether you are a client or technician always follow the FDA guidelines for application. The FDA recommends you take protective measures to eliminate inhalation or ingestion during your spray tan session, such as wearing:
• protective eyewear
• Nose filters
• Sealing lips with lip balm
• Use of protective undergarments

On a personal note, when I was pregnant I aired on the side of caution. I did not eliminate sunless tanning for 9 months, but I also only sprayed when necessary. I understand your situation as a technician is a bit different but thought I would share my personal experience. In the end it is up to you and your physician.

Congratulations and Good luck with your pregnancy!
