Re: help! bronzer is running

You're right, a regular "dark" solution is not going to get bodybuilders any where near as dark as they need to be. You need to be sure you are using a competition formula like Liquid Sun Rayz, Jan Tana or Pro Tan. With a real comp solution you would apply 2 coats the day before and maybe another coat the day of. They should be dried out by then and you shouldnt have a problem with sweating.

Moon Bunny,
Do you have personal contact info for Liquid Sun Rayz, Jan Tana, or Pro Tan?

Re: help! bronzer is running

I've seen many people orange with Jan Tana....Clients I tan for fitness competitions ask me if I use Jan Tana and I tell them no I don't. They then say Thank God. Every one of my clients said that when they used to use Jan Tana, it left them orange, feeling tacky, and smelly. Pro Tan, I wasn't impressed. Liquid Sun Rays is okay.

As a fitness competitor myself, you want to tan the client the day before the show and the day of the show. As for the solution .....it's the bronzers in it that makes them very dark. If you need to add more bronzers in your solution ....go for it.

Re: help! bronzer is running

I was told that the Norvell Black Out was a good product for competitions. I haven't really used it myself as I've never pursued that segment and the competition just to be the official spray tanner is well competitive. I have experienced solution /bronzer running and anytime that has happened it is because the client was hot & sweaty usually due to the temperature/humidity in the room. The only way I have found to deal with it as you can not always choose your location or change the weather is extensive drying with the air from the turbine or a hair dryer after tanning an area NOT waiting until the end of the application. The tan may take a bit longer but believe me the client appreciates that you are detail oriented and let's face it you both want that tan to rock and help win the competition! I hope everything went well for the event! : )

Re: help! bronzer is running

Norvell Black Out in my opinion is not dark enough for competition.

To prevent bronzers from running.....spray your client and intermediately dry them. (Spray and dry, spray and dry) This works even in the hottest of days. It may take a little longer but it works.

Many clients like to shower just right before their tan appt (which I advise against). When they do this and take a warm shower, their body temperature remains on the warm side. This can also cause bronzers or solution to run.

Re: help! bronzer is running

Thanks for ALL the helpful tips!

I think i'll have a trial run with my client (1st time competition, for both of us-him competing and me spraying). I'll spray twice Friday evening, with a deep choc w/hint of red 12% dha solution (drying during & make sure 100% dry time between coats). Then, have the client rinse Saturday morning, wait atleast an hour between rinse and spray, spray with same solution as night before *adding booster drops. (no shower before morning comp.) If he rinses after morning comp., i will then apply a prep spray/bronzer mixture, no dha needed for evening comp.

Does that sound like it could work? I'll let you know how it pans out....with pictures of course!
