Crazy client!

So as many of you know I have been spraying full time for about 7 years now. This was a first for me.

I had a client no call/no show last week for her groupon spray tan. I banned her via my online scheduler. Week goes by, she creates a new account and schedules again. I email her letting her know per groupon fine print fee up to the groupon value applies to no shows or cancellations prior to 24 hours. Begs to let her book, says she will pay when she comes. Fine, see you tuesday.

Comes in today, is 10 min late to her 15 min appt (I am booked solid so there is no room for late appts). I decide to spray her anyways. Sell her xltan (i collect money on the end). She starts undressing in my lobby. Bring her to the spray room, give her instructions. Go in to spray her, she wont stand still, keeps touching herself and fidgeting. I explain about 3 times that she needs to stand still and although she has gotten sprayed by someone else before, we all do it differently and I like them to stand still. Finish spray. She starts touching herself. I ask her not to touch her spray as it will get on her hands and needs to dry. She starts complaining her feet are white, she is streaky, her ears are not sprayed (granted she has no mirror at this point). I explain about the temporary bronzers, how feet are not supposed to be as dark as the rest of her, how they are thicker skin and absorb color, etc. she keeps touching herself and then pointing out that she is white there...of course, you just rubbed it off. Spray her again to fix, she wipes it off with her hands...again. this happens about 5 times. Still complaining about her feet. I respray, complains, i spray again (at this point they are going to be crazy dark). I keep explaining to her why I dont want to do her feet as dark as she says (she also tells me she has very dry skin). I keep reiterating myself, explaining how the spray hasnt developed etc. SHe starts cussing at me that I am rude and defensive and she has been getting sprays longer than I have been alive and she knows what they are supposed to look like...ok fine, go dry. Continues to cuss at me and talk to herself as she is drying. I go outside to take deep breaths. Come back in and ask if she is done drying (she has been drying for about 5 minutes. Complains she is still wet and streaky. I ask her to get dress. Still cussing at me. At this point I have another tenant in the building with me since she is so hostile. She finally comes out, keeps cussing at me. I tell her to leave and I do not want her money nor for her to come back. She thanks me, but keeps cussing at me since I told her she is not welcome back. Look you no called, complained, didnt follow directions, I dont want to deal with you. Please leave. Neighbor has to escort her out. Stands in front of my building for 10 min screaming about how rude I am etc. Inform her I am calling the cops, goes across the street to her car and continues for another 10 min. She sees the cops pull up, she jumps in her car and leaves

WTH?! I have never had to fire a customer like this! I did my job, I accomindated her, I went above and beyond. I can not control them from touching themselves. It is like her mission was just to get a free spray tan to start with. I didnt even want her money, i wanted her gone. Oh she was 55 years old!

Anyways, just had to vent! Thanks!

You will have to give us a follow up; I've always wondered how DHA reacts on the skin of meth heads.

Re: Crazy client!

Lol the crazy thing is she wasnt a meth head! She was a state worker and appeared completely normal. I am dreading looking at yelp later and having to deal with a rebuttal if she posts something. This is the first time I have ever had to ask someone to leave and tell them I didnt even want their money. It just started out bad and got worse!

I thought the same thing.

I think I get the wrong visual every time you said she touched herself and wouldn't stop touching herself.

Re: Crazy client!

Don't feel guilty for firing her. The only mistake you made was not charging her. People like this scam everyone into free stuff. I would have charged her extra for being such a problem.

delany 02-29-2012 11:50 AM

Re: Crazy client!

The main reason I didnt charge her was incase she posts on yelp, I can rebuttle with the fact I waived the no show fee, and the spray fee. It was hard to let her leave without paying, never have done that before. But she was such a pain, I wanted her out of the salon immediately and didnt want her to stay any longer than she had to. ;)

Sandi, I suppose I should have explained the touching part better lol it wasnt innappropriately, just constant. Why would you tell me to respray, then wipe it off, then say its white? freaking people! lol

Email today:

Just to let you know that I have to report this matter to the better business bureau, the news or any other agency that Your service was racially motivated and you treated me like a dog. It was disgraceful and humiliating.

**she was jamaican. I am native american...so I am more of a minority than she is ;) Mind you she threatened me and was hostile to me. This should be interesting. SHe also sent this from her state email account.

Haha! I have a client exactly like her she's Jamaican and all! She does
the same thing. Touches herself after I spray her and says it's not dark enough, even though I explain to her that it takes time for the tan to develop. She called me the other day but didn't leave a message. I'm not going to lie, I screened the call:-). just out of curiosity the clients name wasn't Debbie was it?

ROTFL! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Honestly, it never ceases to amaze me what people will do for a "freebie". Write this woman off. She's not worth the stress.

Holy cow! I wonder if you can turn her in for harassment?

My guess is that the email was intended to get you to dish out more free services in an attempt to "appease" her. What a nut job!

I would do everything in my power to foward the e-mail to a state employee/representative that is above her, if you can figure it out. It's bad enough I'm forced to pay taxes, but I'm not going to sit back and let my money fund abuse towards myself.

My new mission in life would be to make this lady's life more of a he1l than it already is.

And I think it's racist to call someone else racist when they have done nothing wrong, considering she probably would not have made the claims if you were black.

Her higher ups at her job have contacted me, I am sending them her email as well as letting them know how she acted at my salon (not that they can do anything about her actions at the salon, but since she was using their email account she is representing them) and they are going to handle it. I do not really care what they do, just as long as she leaves me the heck alone.

Turbo Girl 03-02-2012 11:41 AM

Re: Crazy client!

Wondering if maybe you should contact BBB yourself to be proactive on this? Not sure if that's an option? It stands to reason that she contacted them since she took the time to follow-up w/that e-mail?

delany 03-02-2012 12:24 PM

Re: Crazy client!

No one here uses the BBB. But I guess I wouldnt hurt. I have been checking online review sites and she hasnt posted anything yet.

Turbo Girl 03-02-2012 12:44 PM

Re: Crazy client!

I would check it out since that was her initial threat. Keep us posted. In the meantime...(Hugs), and hang in there.

Sometimes, I really wish that clients and employees knew how it felt to put your heart, soul, blood, sweat & tears, savings and sometimes even our houses into our businesses just to have someone come & trash-talk it or steal from it.

I know this is totally off the intent of the post, but which color did you use on this jamaican client?

Re: Crazy client!

Obviously she was under the influence stress induced by the end of the world later this year in December... seriously, she may be "working for your competition, or as suggested looking for free services. Keep your head up and continue to do the great job you have been doing. She will be a distant memory soon enough and you have a great salon story to tell at the next "girl's nite out"!

delany 04-13-2012 04:08 PM

Re: Crazy client!

So I randomly got this email from her today. I have not contacted her at all since she left my salon

You need to delete my name and WORK email from your customer email list. Thats is MY WORK EMAIL ADDRESS the same job u tried to get me FIRED from with ur Lying Ignorant ***. Over sum ******** and u know everything was a lie. Be careful who u pull that ******** with next time.

Nice! I suppose since she is saying i need to be careful, it is time I call the authorities. =/

OMG, what a whacko! If you haven't already done so, I would definately do a google alert with your company name, and heck, maybe even your name, so you will be alerted when something is posted about you.

I also thought it was your competition at first, but I really don't think the competition would go to such extremes. I'd hope not anyway!

Re: Crazy client!

Some people are just insane.

I had to give someone her money back and tell her to find somewhere else that would spray her the way she liked. She complained the entire time I sprayed her that she wasn't getting darker and how I charge twice the price of my competitor ( i actually charge $5 less.) After the second session I used two full cups of solution on her and she still complained how I don't include a drying session in the standup like my former competitor and she wasnt tan still.

Just remember you are probably not the first person to kick that women out of somewhere and there doesnt sound like there could be any way to satisfy her.

delany 04-17-2012 11:56 AM

Re: Crazy client!

Even though this email was sent from her personal account, I forwarded it to her employer since obviously they talked to her and she still contacted me. Should be interesting to see how this turns out.

Re: Crazy client!

WoW! I had a similar incident where I caught the woman resorting herself while she was supposed to be drying!! Explaine to her that she was not authorized to use my machine and of it were to break she d be held responsible. Needless to say she flipped out and demanded her package money back. I offered her spray lotions for the value of what she pre paid and asked her not to come backz

Some people are crazy!

Respraying* not resorting

Re: Crazy client!

Its so odd that one client can make or break your day. I dont run into the break kindd very often , but the make kind totally make up for the others! :)

ShoreGlo3 04-19-2012 09:40 AM

Re: Crazy client!

I agree! I love all of my clients and am grateful for them because they make us successful business owners, but the few who try to ruin our day are the worst!!

delany 04-19-2012 11:34 AM

Re: Crazy client!

I have noticed that I get more of the break kind from daily deal sites. I wont be doing one of those again. But yes, I have some awesome clients, that make all the stress worth it.

Paradise Bronze 04-19-2012 11:52 AM

Re: Crazy client!

That client of yours could of been on of your competitors you know. A similar incident happened to me like that back in 2010. It was a tanning party of 3 and I sent one of my technicians to tan them. One of the girls was touching her tan, moving around, wanting to go super dark and then called me and complained about their tans being pink and brown and blotchy after an hour from being tanned. I then came to find that the people who were suppose to be clients was actually my rivals. I now have a pending lawsuit on them. They ruined theor tans on purpose. Whatch out for people like those.

delany 04-19-2012 12:37 PM

Re: Crazy client!

I have had a couple like that. Those usually post yelp reviews complaining then promote the salon they work at. I have sent my personal assistant to my comps to get sprayed...you can always learn something from another person. BUT I always have her act as if she has never had a spray, be polite, etc. They never know she was "shopping" them. She comes back and fills me in on things I could add, things I do differently etc.

Paradise Bronze 04-19-2012 03:17 PM

Re: Crazy client!

Very true, you can always learn from another person. I learn through my clients who went to other companies before coming to me. They tell me everything that the other company does, and I don't even have to ask. The client who ended up being my comp wanted to sue me but I caught them in their lies. Not good on their part.
