Rep Power: 21 | Re: Will You Spray Pregnant Women? You said the FDA, not the USDA; big difference. That is why I said something. The FDA will not issue an "approval" for DHA at this time for spray tanning as they have questions/issues with Inhalation of the product. What you are referencing is the topical application of DHA in cosmetics, not spray form. If this information comes from the USDA and has not been updated since the 70’s; their statement may not be valid since at the time “DHA for cosmetic application” would constitute an application, not including spray. FYI: Inhalation and ingestion are different terms. Also the AMA is not a governing body, so legally what they say does not matter. Just letting you know to save you from possible issues of misrepresentation in the future. Not picking a fight, just clarifying things as I have come to understand them from my research.

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Will You Spray Pregnant Women? From the site you suggested: "The FDA states that commercial facilities should specifically protect clients from DHA exposure to the eyes, lips and mucous membranes as well as preventing the inhalation or ingestion of products containing DHA. We would think that these recommendations should apply to personnel working in these spray "tanning" booths as well as their clients." *1 This is not an "approval", just guidelines; the FDA has not ruled one way or the other. How many of you require lip gloss, protection for genital areas, ear plugs, eye goggles and nose plugs everytime you spray someone? If you don't then DO NOT even mention the FDA in any printed material Please note that this artical was written in 2003, it is almost 10 years old. *1 Medicinenet.com (Barbra K. Rep Power: 0 | Re: Will You Spray Pregnant Women? I want to advise my clients to use the proper protection but how far do you take it?? Do you refuse to spray someone who wants to go completely bare? The lip protection is tricky, I seem to forget to tell clients to bring it, it is on my website under pre tan instructions but not everyone reads those. I also don't want to just give one away if they forget and I think it's wrong to insist they buy chap stick from me just to get their tan. I struggle with the line between really wanting to protect my clients (which I do) and not wanting to bug them with a million things they have to do and remember for their appointment. No one wants to wear the eye protection, does anyone make clients sign a wavier that they declined to wear it?? |
