Re: pH Sprays - really make the tan more golden??

Can you use any skin prep brand with any tanning solution or does it have to be from the same company as the tan solution . I use several brands Vani-T, Naked Tan, Techno Tan, Sunfx, Black Magic.

The orange was most likely caused by the higher % DHA , not the lack of ph spray.

Agreed with several posts: The sprays don't produce an orange effect at all that I've seen.

Re: pH Sprays - really make the tan more golden??

Just a thought, while i don't use Ph sprays i know some do . The main thing is you have to do what works best for your style, and type of solution , and sometimes what your client expects of you. With that said, I have 18 years of experience as an Esthetician. In the skin care industry we use "toners", and PH adjusters on the skin to keep bacteria from overloading the skin after a skin cleansing. The reason it is so important is that the bacteria love the Alkaline environment that cleansers leave behind. The weak acid or PH adjuster brings the surface of the skin back to close to natural 7.0-7.2 PH. Everybody is a little different but that's pretty close.
My dilemma with PH adjusters for spray tanning is the PH can only be moderated on the extreme outer surface of the Stratum Corneum layer. All the spray tanning chemistry occurs below that layer in the Epidermal, and Dermal layer.
Thus, i believe and suggest that the PH sprays are mostly unwarranted as they are not in contact or in the same area of the skin structure as where the "magic" of the spray tan occurs.
Like i said before, you need to do what works for you and if a PH spray benefits your spray success then you must apply. But i've not noticed any difference either way. As i said, just a thought!!

What is the Best sunless spray solution for a booth that you have used?
The kind I'm using right now, you can't really see much of a color change in anyone.
I would like to switch to a dark bronzers. What kind do you prefer??

I use the Sjolie PH balancer spray and I love it! I use to have my clients use Sluff Wipes, but I have definitely noticed a difference using the sjolie spray. The color is richer (in my opinion), the tan tan lasts longer and fades nicer. Sluff wipes can be expensive, can dry out before the client has had time to use all over their body and spots can also easily be missed with the wipes. With the spray, I spritz it on all over, front, back, and sides, and then have them wipe off any residue on their front and I wipe down their back since they can't reach. Hope this helps!

I originally used the Norvell PH spray but many clients found it felt really cold so I have been trying different products that I saw mentioned frequently. So far I have tried Sluff Wipes and Fake Bake. The Sluff Wipes can dry out quickly and have parabens which surprised me although they feel way softer than the Fake Bake which feel rough but are paraben free. As a professional I have always used PH balancer even if it is simply to clean the clients skin although I do believe it does help produce a more natual looking tan.
