How to do a "skin spot test"??

A new customer is requesting a skin spot test prior to the airbrush appt. Is this as easy as dabbing a solution soaked cotton ball, on a not obvious area of her body?

I have never had this request but I would think rather than a cotton ball which could lead to just a dark patch, maybe tan just her stomach. If she has a reaction she can hide it & the area is big enough for her to see how great the tan looks.

I am just getting started and was asked the same thing by a potential client... She thought to have her neck or side tanned... What do you all think?

A spot test is always a good idea. Use your finger and dab a little product behind the ear or in the fold of the inside of the arm...you will be able to identify a reaction in as little as 10 min most of the time.

Thank you Shari! Do you ask clients prior to spay if they have allergies and if you should spot test? Have you ever had a client react to any solution ? What solution do you like to use? Thanks!!!!

Re: How to do a "skin spot test"??

I used to teach spray tanning across the US. I developed a questionair that identified any possible problems..then we could discuss with client prior to spraying.
Personally when the fade as it was called back then, started...I taught to get a release form, speak to the client about possible reactions (ever had an issue with any product containing dha?) Then, if they had never used dha or thought they had a reaction, i would always suggest the tech do a patch test. From a manufacture point of view, it is always important to teach techs to use all tools to identify a problem prior to application.

Hope that helps
