Sunscreen Recommendation

Has anyone found a good sunscreen that will not drastically fade the spray tan? Thanks

Re: Sunscreen Recommendation

Unfortunately only a low spf sunscreen is recommended. Also, if someone knows they will be swimming or hot tubbing it a water-proof sunscreen is a must sun or no sun.

Nuetrogena is amazing! It's called Spectrum and it's the spray kind. It's about $13.00 a bottle and goes up to 100% and has helioplex. It's amazing. Not sticky and has never messed up my spray tan. I think the thick lotions really mess up the tan.....

Re: Sunscreen Recommendation

I read that a waterproof sunscreen will protect the tan while swimming and that
aerosol sport spray sunscreens don't normally have petroleum or mineral oils that will fade a tan, so they might be the best option to go with. The waterproof ones act as a barier b/t the tan and the water.

Re: Sunscreen Recommendation

I use high SPF Banana Boat Sport lines and never seem to have problems with my tan. I generally only use the aerosol so I don't miss spots as I burn easily in the sun. I had pre-melanoma and Banana Boat sport is the best I've seen as far as protection for UVA AND UVB rays and it's waterproof/sweatproof. One other brand had the ingredients necessary to protect against UVA but had a third of the amount in it compared to Banana Boats. I generally use 50-85 because the SPF's advertised are only if you properly apply sunscreen and the average consumer only applies a third of what the SPF rated amount was used. Just a tip :)

Re: Sunscreen Recommendation

Correct, for bare skin, a high spf is necessary, but if one has a spray tan a high spf is going to one, affect the quality (look) of the tan, and two, shorten the longevity. Unfortunate, but true.

Re: Sunscreen Recommendation

I guess it just depends on the brand of the solution. I worked at Caesars palace in las Vegas cocktailing at the pool all summer two years ago and sprayed with aerosol 50 SPF and higher at least twice per day and it never affected my tan. Maybe its an ingredient or ingredients in the solution versus the spray? And my tan doesn't usually fade too bad in chlorine, but i have had it fade very quickly in a hot tub, likely because of the heat. I think the idea of the waterproof sunscreen making a barrier may be very true since i always use spray sunscreen while in a pool and dont seem to have many issues with fading but don't use sunscreen while going in a hot tub.

Re: Sunscreen Recommendation

I wonder, then, if the spray might be less invasive versus rubbing on the sunscreen. Interesting. I'll try it this weekend and let you know how it worked on my skin.
