Anyone using Norvell's VIP unit??

I was just wondering if anyone is using Norvell's VIP unit, and if so, what gun settings do you get the best result with? The gun is different from most and has a numbered dial for solution flow. Someone recommended between 5-6 (the dial is 1 to 8), but the solution tends to bead a little if I go anything over 3. Also I usually have my airflow set about 3/4 of the way up. I am not sure if I am getting enough solution on clients at a 3, so I was just wondering if anyone else has used the VIP unit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I have been playing with mine as well and I use it on a 3. When I called Norvell directly they said that was a perfect setting to use. And like we discussed before you have to keep an eye on it because I know it tends to move it as Im spraying.

Do you have any trouble cleaning it? I just bought the Norvell VIP system and didn't realize the gun doesn't come apart, and water/cleaner has become trapped up in the gun and i can't get it out. Called Norvell and they say this is 'normal'. huh?

Also, if you set it at a 3, how high do you turn up the power on the actual box? Thanks :)

Re: Anyone using Norvell's VIP unit??

Now that Ive been using it awhile now here are my thoughts..I set it at a 3 and put the dial up about half way. I absolutly hate they way you have to clean it and how the water gets trapped in there. I didnt realize it was that type of gun either when I purchased it. When I called Norvell they raved about it being able to be rinsed like that rather than having to take it apart but I hate it. Its not easy getting the water out. So after rinsing it for awhile then I fill one of the cups with warm water and run that thru also. Then I put an empty cup on and run the remaining water out. And even after all that there is still always water inside so the next day I put a cup back on it and run it some more and have to keep doing that. I think I wouldve rathered taken apart a gun and rinsed it and been done with it. I was thinking purchasing a mid range unit would be better quality seeing I didnt want to invest in top end right away but Im not too sure Im happy about it. The gun just feels rather cheesy to me.

I just bought one-- but now I am worried! What did the cleaning instructions say in the manual? I hope I don't have to return? Anyone else out there just get one? Can you comment? After I get mine I will post...

Re: Anyone using Norvell's VIP unit??

There is always a little bit of water in my gun as well, but what I've been doing is rotating between guns (since it comes with two) which gives one a day to dry out. I like the convenience of it being easy to clean in just a couple of minutes, so I'm trying not to let the water issue bother me since reps from Norvell say it's nothing to worry about. Even if I can hear a little water in the gun, it does not affect my spraying (so maybe it's caught somewhere that it's not actually shooting out?). The guns do feel very inexpensive, but they are light, easy, EASY to clean, and easy to pack up and go. I just run warm water through mine for several minutes and then run just a little of the gun cleaner through so I can be sure the alcohol in it is drying up any excess water. I really like my VIP unit and would not consider sending it back. My optimum settings is 3 on the dial with air flow turned up 3/4's of the way.

just bought mine 3-31-11, have only sprayed my 'volunteers' so far, not any clients, as i wanted to practice. However, I immediately noticed the water and or cleaner left over stuck up in the gun. I had NO idea you didn't take it apart to clean. I prefer to do that as i feel you can actually see everything is getting clean and dry. I've also had some issues with the hose coming unplugged from the unit (not from the gun). I have borrowed a friends older mobile hvlp gun for tonight and am going to do a side by side comparrison test spray on my hubby. I may be calling Norvell to return my VIP unit, if i feel the older spray unit does better. Will let you know tomorrow. I NEED to get going because i have customers asking when i'll be up and running with the airbrush . (i'm adding airbrush to an existing tanning/mystic salon.

Re: Anyone using Norvell's VIP unit??

I love my Norvell VIP unit! I have been using it now for over a year and just had to replace the hose. Unfortunately I couldn't get the same hose as the original so I have a new quick connect disconnect hose using adaptors so I can use my original guns. Yay!

I used it today and noticed some important differences the hose is slimmer and longer then the original hose with some metal components. I think because the hose is slimmer the handle gets hot which was actually kind of nice as my hands were cold. It was definitely easier to disconnect to dry the client as the adaptor stays in the gun so it feels like a bit more secure.

I did buy a new spray gun which says M1000 from a VIP2 and the hose attaches above the handle. I will be testing that shortly. It doesn't fit as well in the gun holder of the original turbine but I put a neoprene glove on the cup and it feels more snug. Clients love the warm air feature and it really helps for drying in the solution !

I was loving my new hose and just had another booking with the same client that I had to tape the hose (mid-tan) we joked before the tan about the incident and I showed her how I now carry black electrical tape HAHAHA and bought a cool new hose with a intentional quick disconnect feature (different design).

Wouldn't you know mid-way through the tan the NEW hose did the exact same thing! Thank goodness she is super cool and I had tape so I mega taped it and finished the tan. I think there is an issue with the warm air and the hose expanding which causes it to pop off from the connector. VERY EMBARASSING for sure but really freaky that it happened months a part with the same client and a different hose.

Just bought a mini-mist as a portable back-up unit just in case the next issue is the turbine rather than the hose and cannot be easily Macgvered on the go!
