wipe off barrier cream on knees & elbows?

I put barrier cream on nails, toe nails, elbows and knees pretty heavely. I always wipe off the barrier cream on the clients nails, but should I be wiping off the barrier cream on the knees and elbows too, after I am done? I never wipe it off on my own elbows & knees, but these areas still seem to get pretty dark on me...

I have the client apply to hands (as I instruct them) and feet then wipe the excess on knees and elbows. Everything get rubbed in pretty well. I dont do nails except when something has a french manicure. I do not wipe anything off. I hope it helps.
