Spray Tan: How do I tell my clients that they need to pay more?

Since I started my spray tan business I had flat rate for a full body spray tan considering I'd use approximately 3oz of solution. However, for the larger body frames I need to charge more because it can take almost double the solution. What is the problem? I have a hard time telling the client that is expecting to be charged the advertised price that is 10 dollars more because of his/her size. Also the prepaid packages I offer are also Tailored for the standard size person that 3oz of solution will do and not the bigger size. Therefore I also have a problem explaining that they need to pay more on a prepaid package. Please! can someone one tell me what is the best why to advertise my prices. Is it the best to advertise price like this: Full body airbrush $35-$45 price is determined by solution used. (or should I say price is determined by body frame size? Please give me your opinion on this matter.

Comprimise on $40 for all, you will probably make more in the long run.

Good idea Jeff but I would hate to overcharge considering I have to compete with the prices of the competition.

What I do is charge $45 which includes the prep spray (comp doesn't do that) and it's only like $10 per qt. about .50 per session. It sets us apart. Ours is also a true airbrush vs. HVLP set up. I think when people are paying the $$$ they want to be pampered a bit more and can't seem to spend $45 for 3 minutes of time to be sprayed. Ours takes about 15 minutes then the drying time.

its kinda like buying a tshirt... Most of the time you see s,m,lg,xl $15.00 xxl, xxxl $18.00. I wouldnt say "depending on body/frame size" because you could insult someone. If I were you I would say "depending on amount of solution used." That way its not a slap in the face when you tell them they are too fat compared to the average person. I don't know much about the air brush, (we use a spray booth) but if there is a way to show exactly how much solution you do use, that will help. You could say for 3 oz used its $35 and there will be an additional $10 charge for any more ounces used

Hi--I'm having the same problem. What I was thinking about doing is telling them the first four ounces is $40. and then it's $10 extra for each additional oz.??? You have to be careful about the way you word things these days. Good luck. Let me know how you make out. I haven't made a final decision yet but that was one of my thoughts.

Okay, what you see below is the edited price description on my menu.

Full Body Airbrush $35-$45
Includes initial color consultation, mixing custom color for your skin tone and full body hand applied airbrush tan with high quality solution. $35 equals to 3 ounces of solution, enough to cover an average size person. Guarantee NO orange.

Assuming that the client could determine on their own what they will end up paying.

What do you think?

thats sounds good but dont assume the client will be able to gauge for themselves what they will pay. You know there are those bigger women out there that think they are a size 2!

I question why are you using 3-4 oz to start with??? Most times 1-1.5 oz are all thats needed!! One price, everyone pays the same. The solution costs are nothing compared to labor, ins, rent, utilities. Dont get greedy with the $$ it will bite your azz. Not trying to offend you here at all, but be generous to your clients and they will be the same for you!

You have a point there if I was able to use only 1-1.5 oz. What kind of solution are you using? I always need at the very least 3oz because 95% of my clientele is very fair and like to leave dark.
