Unsatisfied with Airbrush Tan Wants a Refund!

I have a client who I airbrushed yesterday and today she called with a list of complaints. She just wants her money refunded.

How are you dealing with situations like this. I would love to hear.

Thanks!

What are her complaints? If they are legit, I'd offer to respray.
Were they properly prepared?
If they looked good when you left, then it's basically on them.

Re: Unsatisfied with Airbrush Tan Wants a Refund!

Jeff,
She looked great when she left, no complaints then. I also had her come in and I thought she looked great!

Her complaints were there was a darker patch in the underarm area (it was on the bicep where your arm naturally lays next to your body) I had trouble seeing it myself. She also said her feet and ankles were blotchy, again I didn't see it. She said, "if I had to put on a bathing suit I would look horrible"! She was wearing a spaghetti strap top and, like I said, my first thought was, "you look great"!

I do find that "these types" don't want to take ANY responsibility in the results. I offered to show her products that would help her with what she considered problems, but she wouldn't listen. I also told her it is only cosmetic and she could remove it all if she wants. She, again, wouldn't listen!

Re: Unsatisfied with Airbrush Tan Wants a Refund!

Susabeach,

Is she a client that is completely new to airbrushing? A lot of times their first experience can be troublesome because they simply do not take the proper precautions to care for the sunless tan. Most people literally think its a really tan and don't care for it properly.

I had a woman spill something on herself after her airbrush and try to tell me that she didn't do anything. You could actually see the drip marks all down her legs.

If you gave a good airbrush and she looked good when she left, 9 times out of 10 she did something after she left to cause the issues. Usually the questions I ask are
1. Did you shower before you went to sleep? (night sweaters can mess up their tans before they fully develop).

2. Did you wear sandals or other types of shoes that have strapping (that can cause blotches around the ankles and feet).

At the end of the day, you need to adhere to whatever policies you have created for these types of clients. If it were me I would go over the specific care one needs to take with an airbrush tan and would offer to fix her, but I would not give her a refund.

I hope this helps.

Re: Unsatisfied with Airbrush Tan Wants a Refund!

Thanks Chelegirl,

When she called to schedule the appointment I talked to her about prep and also directed her to my website for more information.

While I was doing the application she started telling me that (since she was in town for "wedding prep" she was going to have a Mani/Pedi the next day). She said, "they are going to exfoliate my legs, should I ask them not too"? I responded in the positive!

When she left she was wearing a tube top. I always talk to them about the clothes they will wear home if they are not appropriate, and that tight fitting clothes are not recommended (this may be where the invisible mark under her arm occurred).

I think she just used the wedding as an excuse to rant and demand a refund. I have a waiver that all my clients must read and sign that has 10 points/instructions and a disclaimer, which she signed.

I guess I am frustrated with the fact that some clients don't want to take any ownership/responsibility for their part in the whole thing. I did to try to work with her but all she wanted was a refund. I also told her it was only cosmetic and she could wash it all off if she wanted.

Give her a spray for free and if that's no good give her a good day and part your ways. She's not coming back if you give her the money. If you prove that it is good with the respray she'll come back

Re: Unsatisfied with Airbrush Tan Wants a Refund!

Well there is the answer! She should have done her pedicure 24 hours before her sunless session. I'm sure she soaked her feet in a nice hot bubbly tub. Even without the exfoliator she still lifted off her dead skin cells just by soaking.

There are always going to be people that no matter what you tell them they will only believe and do what they want to. It can be frustrating, but for every one of those types of clients I have 15 that are great. So I guess it isn't a bad ratio. It's really good that you make them sign a waiver. I do too and I have had to remind clients about the finer points of what they signed as well.

Yeah-Thanks everyone. It does help to talk to others about these things. It helps me to know if I'm on the right track and maybe there is something I missed. I'm feeling better now.

Re: Unsatisfied with Airbrush Tan Wants a Refund!

Make sure she is not your spray tan rival acting like a paying customer. Something like this can be a set up. It happened to me where a client wanted a tan with her 2 sisters. We spray tanned her and then 2 hours later she called and complained about it and demanded about $3000 in damages. The whole thing sounded like a bunch of BS and a set up for me. Conclusion...they were my spray tanning rivals acting like paying customers and I have proof.

Re: Unsatisfied with Airbrush Tan Wants a Refund!

o my god all your horror stories on her serve as lessons to those less experienced. But my question is, in USA< do these waiver forms actually hold up in court? Do customers ever act sketched out when you ask them to sign the waivers?
I am the only one in my city to do mobile spray tanning . I am scared if i make them sign waivers the clients will get suspicious-like i have something to be afraid of...
any advice?
