spray tanning & acne

Hi - I have a client who has acne and I have stayed away from spraying their face because of it. They use prescription meds and recently asked for their face to be sprayed. Perhaps testing a small area? Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks much : )

spray and all self tanners make my face break out something evil. I wouldn't do it.

I've never had an issue with this. DHA tans the skin cells, and shouldn't clog the pores. However, to be on the safe side, I would have the client contact their dermatologist and ask. After that point if they still wish to proceed, I don't think you have any choice but to try it if you want to keep that person as a repeat customer. My only concern would be the appearance of the tanned skin...might look a little splotchy if those areas are fairly severe.

That's great - thank you. It is fairly severe and agree that it would look splotchy if sprayed. I'll definitely mention to them about talking with their dermatologist. If okay to proceed, maybe try one of the 'just for faces' sprays that you blend in lightly with sponge. Thanks again!

I always use clear for faces with acne. The bronzers don't seem to "sit" well. Yes, they have to wait for color but until it develops its a much better look

Re: spray tanning & acne

DO NOT SPRAY SOMEONE'S SEVERE ACNE. Anything will irritate a situation like that. If anything they should be in the tanning bed trying to clear up the acne.

Re: spray tanning & acne

typically the bronzers will group up on around the acne- making the areas look dirty

Thanks for the tips! And good suggestion on putting them in a bed but their skin type is not meant for that. Unfortunately someone had put them in one a few years back & it did not go well. Thanks again!

What do you mean? Unless they have broken skin anyone can go in the tanning bed.
