Sorry to inform you that when I started my business I DIDN'T go in with that attitude...otherwise I wouldn't have started a business at all. But my reality is that I am in an area where its just not that popular. And don't try to tell me in your next post that I am just not marketing properly, not putting in effort, etc...

Sunless is not popular everywhere yet, some places are still catching on. (And, please don't give me that "slower, lower" remark either).

Sunkissed920...just be sure that before you invest in a storefront, that you will have good results with it.
LOL we should meet for lunch one day. I was just kidding about the slower, lower comment.... you know that's a Delaware thing. :)

Re: Store Front, Mobile, or both need advice

I don't think you've thought it through on what your actual expenses will be. As Rent is not your only expense.

Rent: $250
Phone: $50
Internet to chat on Tantalk: $50
Electricity: $250
Gas: $75
Insurance: $80
Total Monthly Expenses: Estimated $755

Signage out front: $1500-$3000
Buildout, Furnishings, Accenting, Computer: $2000 - $5000

Best thing you can do, since you probably aren't ready for a store front yet, is to go to the best and most high end salon, Spa, or tanning salon...and work out a deal with them to have a room setup for you to spray their clients by appointment only.

You can either give them a percentage of the session or pay them a monthly fee. It benefits you because you don't have to dish out the large amount to make your own business storefront and it offers their clients another service that they can use to advertise and gain more customers, which in turn means more for you too.

Start with that, grow your business and open your own when you have built a name for yourself around your community and can have the business invest the money and pay for it's growth.

Re: Store Front, Mobile, or both need advice

LOL! Funny Eileen. Still checking into things and the costs. Kinda like the idea of going mobile M-W then Store Thurs.-Sat. That way I can work on building up clientele. I can also see what people prefer around here as to coming to the store vs mobile. Think I will also keep the tanning parties to the store IF I go storefront. I know the machine I'm going to order, have several ideas for marketing, and have a business name. Checking on insurance. As for solution, from what I've read it's a pretty personal choice, just need to try them and see for myself. Any more advice is still greatly appreciated! Thanks for the input guys.

Just wondering if you've made your decision yet as to what you are going to do?

Solution isn't just a personal choice.... some people will pay over $50 higher for a private label where the only thing different is the fragrance/label and they have no idea. ;)

Re: Store Front, Mobile, or both need advice

I have had 2 salons approch me. One wanted $110 a week. Another wanted 35% a tan. I feel they are both a little high for this area. Suggestions? Right now I have very little overhead, but I am thinking about prom/summer season next year.
