Whew..A new topic! What should I charge?

I have never done mobile tanning before. I did a woman 2 weeks ago at my salon and now she wants me to come to her house every other week for her and 2 friends. It's almost 4 miles from the salon I work in and I will be spraying them in her shower so I guess I dont need a backdrop.

What are you guys charging for mobile? She said the person who was doing her before was only charging them $30 each. That sounds a little low to me but I guess there are 3 of them in one shot. What do you guys think?

$30 is low- you would be providing a premium service.

Cost of supplies
Transportation and set-up of supplies
Drive time
Salon Insurance
Vehicle Insurance

Since there are 3- minumum charge $40-$45/ea.- Or call the other person that was spraying her. She obviously likes your service better.

You are only four miles away and will be doing 3 at a time. I think 35 would be fair. You would walk out with 115 and maybe more if they tip. Thats not bad for about an hours worth of work including travel.

I think 40 is is good for 3 people. Tell her to invite more people say 5 and youll do them 30 a pc..always push more people..:) Never drop below 30 for one. Unless it's a group of ten or more and the host is COMP

Re: Whew..A new topic! What should I charge?

Well let's see, you are providing a service. If the spray is $45 in the salon then it should be at least $45 in the house but actually it should be more. Add another $10 and make it $55 a spray.

Also, you need to charge a service call. Just because it is 4 miles away means nothing. It is not a travel charge, it is a service charge. You have to provide insurance on your ride and liability on the biz. You need to cover travel and fuel, you need to cover administrative time before and after. You need to provide advertising. You need to provide communications such as phone, internet for e mail, website(if you have one). You need to cover transaction fees for credit cards.

You need to cover wear and tear on your vehicle, wear and tear on your tools and equipment. You need to cover down time since you are providing a service that will have ups and downs and it is a niche business so you need to make enough to be able to stay in business.

This is about turning a profit. $100 service call, $55 a spray, maybe give a 10% discount over 3 sprays at one location, (just a thought) all secured with a credit card and half charge if not canceled within 24 hours.

That's how you charge and why you charge.

In the salon I charge between $59 and $95. Mobile I would start at $125.

Wow! $125?? I wish I lived where you do so I could charge that much!

I do mobile and I charge $45 for an individual session. For 2-4 people, $40 and for 5 or more $35 with the hostess tanning for free.

Re: Whew..A new topic! What should I charge?

OK Brian, Eileen with all due respect I don't get charging that! I live in Ohio a very hard hit economy state. I hand out business cards any chance I get. I have had people actually snort and laugh at me when I tell them I charge $30! MOBILE! I get calls every week haggling me to take less if they can come to my home. One client asked me if I would take $10 a girl for a tanning party if they got enough people together! I had to say no to that one! I mean we have a few affluant areas in town, but if I told them $125 I think they would die laughing. What about poor economy states like Ohio?

Re: Whew..A new topic! What should I charge?

Update: I told them it would be $50 per person with a 50% nonrefundable deposit needed to book the appt. Or, they could all come into the salon at the same time for $30 per person.... normal price is $ 40. They chose to come to the salon. Fine with me, I was not looking forward to packing up all my supplies.
