Client now comes out blotchy....Help

I have a repeat client who wants an airbrush tan twice a week. I use Norvell Amber Sun Regular with bronzer on her. I started airbrushing her since January 09 and she loves her tan, they have been coming out perfect everytime until 2 weeks ago. Her legs either come out blotchy or they don't tan. I give her one coat and they don't tan, I give her a tad bit more on her legs and they come out blotchy.

What can be the problem why this is happening? My client is light blonde hair and blue eyes and is quite white. Her tans use to be perfect and now they are not. Can it be because she is showering/exfoliating/shaving right before her tan?(she says she has been doing that lately) Your advice is needed.

Probably using something different shaving or moisturizing legs.

Now that it's summer, maybe she's shaving more often, and it's not wearing off as well? Yes, changing when she shaves/exfoliates prior to her spray may be affecting it. I think it's recommended to shave the day before, and I tell customers to exfoliate the day of. Could you try a darker shade on her legs, rather than using two coats?

I could tell her to shave the day before and see what happens. I've tried a light shade of my Norvell Dark on her legs and they came out really dark, she didn't like it.

One thing I will say is that it happened to us with the Versa Spa. I kept telling my husband it was not the original solution . After calling with the new issues we found out they actually were purchasing solution from another source.
It all started one day about 5 months ago. I guess after a hard lesson they have changed the solution back to the original. We were doing beautiful spray tans one day and then speckling started. Why stray from what works? Some people were perfect bu the fair skinned people had the specks. So don't rule out your solution because what you had yesterday could be different today without knowing it. Best wishes.

Thank you CrystalSS. I've been using Norvell since I started Airbrush Tanning and never had a problem with it and my clients love it. It's just this only one client whose tan now comes out blotchy and it never happend to her before. It's a mystery.

What is she moisturizing with after she shaves her legs? Is she using a product that contains mineral oil? Mineral oil particles are too large for your pores to absorb, so it can layer on the skin and wear off unevenly. Areas that may be saturated with mineral oil won't take the solution and areas where it has worn off will.

Also, your skin is the largest organ and releases the body's toxins through the pores. Mineral oil can block this process causing your skin to slough (exfoliate) unevenly which, of course can affect the way a spray looks.

She uses Aveeno. But she's been shaving her legs like a half hour before I tan her.

I just had this same problem. I knew better but shaved my legs right before I tanned and they came out blotchy. This also made them dry. Proper before care is sooooo important. So much to learn.
