Starter question

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and also pretty new to sunless tanning.

I live in Germany and used a professional tanning cabin/salon here. The result was AMAZING. However the price was tough. About 15 Euro (=21 US dollars or =13 UK pounds) for one application. We do not have a lot of these salons here in Germany yet.
Also I have been using self tanners (creams and lotions) for many years.

This is why I want to get myself a tanning machine and tanning lotion.
The "problem" is that they don't sell these machines here in Germany, which is whx I will have to import them from the UK (because of the voltage I cannot order from the US).

Is anyone familiar with Maxi Mist machine: http://www.suntana.co.uk/equipment.html
Do you think this is a good one?

As I said, it would be for personal use only! I have already ordered a popup tanning tent (which is cool, by the way).

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Re: Starter question

Oh, sorry but there are some more questions that I have:

1) How much percent should the tanning solution be? I have a light to fair skin tone, but actually would like to be very tan :-)

2) How long does it last? I know many people say it will last 5-7 days. But actually whenever I applied self-tanner, it faded away after 1-2 days.

Thanks for all your help!!

Re: Starter question

You will be very happy with the Maxi mist.
I wouldn't do more than 5%.
Depends on the solution you use. Ours last most people 8 to 10 days, but it is top quality solution .

Re: Starter question

Thank you NJDave for the reply!
Okay great, I think I will go for the Maxi Mist. It seems to be a good machine and, most of all, especially designed for tanning.

The UK company Suntana sells 8%/10%/12%
Would 8% already be too much for me?

Browsing the internet I read so many good things about St. Tropez and on eBay I could find tanning solution by them (for a spray tanning machine). Has anyone here ever tested it?

Sorry for all the "newbie"-questions, but I am really glad I found this forum. Have been browsing the forum almost the entire afternoon. :-))

I know Dave the owner at Suntana and they are a good company to deal with.

The maxi mist is a reasonable machine however here in the UK the T200 (or the T100 as you Americans know it) is by far more popular with therapists as it has less solution consumption due to a finer mist at the gun nozzle.

The problem you will have with UK supplied machines is that they will have UK voltage motors(not really a problem) and a UK plug top which is not compatible with your euro sockets(also not a problem as you can either simply fit a Euro plug top or get an adaptor)

Your cost of application should be anywhere from 5-15% assuming you use around 35ml solution per application....have you had training??

If you contact Chris Cramer at TBT he can dispatch machines to Europe with the appropriate voltage motors as well as the correct plug top.

Re: Starter question

Hello Collin,

thanks for your reply.
I already asked people here and they said that the UK and Germany has the same voltage (230V), so I only need a plug adaptor, which I already ordered from eBay for 3 pounds :-))

It seems that the MaxiMist is cheaper than the T200 and Suntana seems to have a very good price.

Since I'm still not sure if this will all work anyway I don't want to spend too much.

Have you used Suntana's tanning solution . Is it good? Or which other solution can you recommend in the UK (since this is cheaper than importing from the US for me)

Thanks for your help!!
Andy

The maximist will do a good job for you at a low entry price point so no worries there ;0))

Santana do sell at lower margins than many other equipment suppliers and also have a very good service record.
We undertake there training for them here in the UK so know them very well.

Their solutions are also good.

There are many many providers here in UK..best is to go on a UK search engine and google spray tan ..there are literally hundreds and hundreds.
Where in Germany are you based..my wife is from Hamburg ;0)
Good luck

Re: Starter question

Oh really? I am from Cologne, which isn't exactly around the corner from Hamburg :-)

Cool, then I think I will go for the MaxiMist. I tried to find TBT online, just to check out what they have but couldn't find their website address. Not even Google was helpful.

Which tanning solution do you use?

this might help you find TBT http://www.tampabaytan.com/
TBT supply Suntana so either way both are good companies.

What brand do I use...mmm that would be classed as advertising im afraid ;0))

Re: Starter question

Thanks for all your help so far.

I received my Maxi Mist today and well, am afraid I have a few more questions now :-)

1. Is it possible to spray tan myself. I did it today and the result isn't the best. Has any professional therapist spray tanned him/herself already? And is it possible?

Too much tan solution came out at the beginning and it left a big, dark spot on my skin.

2. What was the reason for the dark spot? Was I too close? Or do I need to adjust the pistol (if so, do I have to adjust it to let more or less solution come out)?

3. I used a solution by Suntana. However, the solution took A LONG TIME to dry. Is that because I used too much solution ?

As a comparison I tried a spray can by St. Tropez this week and this one dried within seconds!! Also St. Tropez stays on even after showeing, whereas most of the Suntana solution came off.

Sorry for all these silly questions. You probably think "Why doesn't this guy get a professional training" - well, believe me I would if they offered it here in Germany but I'm afraid they don't. Plus, this is only for myself.

Thanks so much for your help!!
