Rep Power: 0 ![]() | How many of you mobile tanning businesses actually have a license? Hello, I'm new here. I am in the process of starting a mobile tanning business. I have searched the boards and some seem to have licenses, but they also have actual salons...and some do not...and some are finding it very difficult. I actually don't even know where to start to get a business license...or should I just do the LLC? I'm a licensed Esthetician...just would feel more comfortable with a license backing me up...can anyone tell me what my first step is and what I classify it under??? thanks in advance. |

Even tho I am mobile I am classed as a home based business. If you are doing this as a living you should be licensed for tax purposes and being a legitimate company providing a service to clients that you are charging money for your services. Having insurance is also a must. It protects you and your clients. I also have artisan insurance on my truck. Cover all your bases and do things properly from the start. Don't find out the hard way that you didn't protect yourself. Things might be different in the states than Canada but I went thru doing a name search for my business (costs involved) then the next step is going to city hall and registering for a business license, get insurance, registering for provincial sales tax #(gst). Hope this helps. Like I said your laws there maybe different than ours so check into things. |

In the states if you don't have a business license and insurance you deserve to get sued. If you pay employees under the table you deserve the same. Play by the rules and you won't have things come back to haunt you later. :)

Then contact the state department that you get your esthetician license from and see if they can tell you if you need any additional licensing from the state |

I applied for a Home based Business License. basically you will be working from your home as a home base. I just put down my business name, and under description just put mobile airbrush tanning or airbrush tanning. There is only a few forms to sign, but every municipality is different. Go to the County webpage to see if you can do it on-line. Fees will vary. Mine is $30/year. |

You also need insurance. Also, call your State Board of Health and see if spray tanning is regulated in your State, then contact the County Board of Health you do business in and find out their regulations, if they have any with regard to spray tanning . With regard to incorporation or limited liability company you should contact your local County Bar Association and inquire about llc or inc... | |

I plan to be just mobile, but may do sprays out of my house. Use you home address. You have to put down a physical address to get the license. Guys it is no big deal. Mobile spray tanning is a home based business whether you decide to rent out some salon space in the future or not. Now if you actually own a salon, then that is different. I hope this info helps. |
