Mobile spray tanning is a home based business whether you decide to rent out some salon space in the future or not. Now if you actually own a salon, then that is different.
I hope this info helps.
im confused here. Are you stating that since your going to be running your spray tanning services from your home you dont need a business license and its really now big deal?

She's saying that you need a physical address to get a business license and getting a business license is really not that big of a deal.

Re: How many of you mobile tanning businesses actually have a license?

I have no clue how to get a business license because the town I live in is extremely small, we don't have a city hall. So where do I go? When I talked to my accountant she said as long as you make under a certain amount per month you don't even need a business license. She also said that if you make over I think it was $200 per city you do business in you have to get a license there too. So if you spray in a bordering town and make over $200 in a month you need a business license. Does anyone know anything about that?

you would apply for a business license in the County Clerks office of where your business will reside... regardless if it is in your home or in an office/commerical space.

I suggest you call your Dept of Health of the state you live in and ask them for information. I contacted the NY Dept of Health 2 weeks ago with questions on regulations etc etc and they answered all questions ...

I'm kind of puzzled as to why you would join this site if you are not a salon/business owner, as this is what this site is for... salon and business owners.

if you dont plan on becoming a business owner there are many other sites that you can join with respect to sunless tanning.

my state - no licenses recommended or required unless you are selling retail - then you need traders licences. also make-up artist no longer needs license either.

Re: How many of you mobile tanning businesses actually have a license?

Kggonline - I dont really appreciate you making assumptions about me. I am a business, mobile, just like you! I pay taxes on what I make and I think I know a thing or two about running a business. My husband and I own a pretty sucessful business and I use to manage a business. Like I said I am researching getting a business license but I havent figured out exactly where to go because the town that I do most of my business in is very small. When I do go into the bigger cities I don't make that significant of an amount that would require a license. Besides I don't think you decide who gets to be on this site and who doesn't. Thanks for your advise I will contact the Dept of Health.

Re: How many of you mobile tanning businesses actually have a license?

Every state is different with regard to business licenses. I live in MD and the guidelines clearly state, do not apply for a license if one is not required. It's a waste of people's time and money. A mobile tanning service in my state does not require a business license unless you are selling retail. If you want to do business as another name other than your own, you file a Doing Business As form and get some liability insurance if you're smart. If you want to protect yourself from lawsuits incurred by your employees, or the tax benefits of incorporation you form a corporation. Does a chef need a license to cook food? Does a graphic artist need a license to create art? Just because you don't have a license does not mean that you are not in business. If you are claiming income to the IRS for the services that you perform, you are in business. If your state requires a license for your service, you get one.

Re: How many of you mobile tanning businesses actually have a license?

Thank you very much TannedbyTina. I looked into the Dept of Health thing and because the city I live in is a Unicorp they said that I did not require a license to perform services within that city.

I am a mobile business owner who went and got a business license. I am also insured. I also applied to the regional Chamber of Commerce.

I am not making assumptions about you I was replying to your thread. If you are already a business owner then you should have some basic foundation on how to run a business and what to do with respect to licensing, insurance, accounting, etc.

My apologies on my comment with regard to being puzzled about why you were on this site as that comment was meant to be my reply to the posted below
