Rep Power: 0 | Teens and Airbrush Tanning I got this article emailed to me today while I was teaching a class in North Carolina. We were actually discussing this very topic when the email notification came over my blackberry. One of my biggest soapboxes in this industry has been in regards to this, and I hope female spray technicians do not think that they are exempt from this. http://www.tmnews.com/stories/2009/0....nw-705835.tms |

If we have young girls we tell them to bring a bathing suit and we also supply disposable undergarments at no additional charge. Men are told they have to wear boxers or a swimsuit.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Teens and Airbrush Tanning The issue is with minors tanning, and until minors reach the age of eighteen parents are legally the ones who are to make any decision in regards to what a minor does and does not. Most parents, I am sure would not have a problem with their child tanning, or tanning topless, however - this is not about what parents will allow or won't allow....it's about protecting your business. This is not an issue of whether or not parents have the right to control their children, or whether anyone thinks they should or should have the right and this article was not posted to start a debate about it....it was posted so that everyone in the industry can make a smart, educated decision and limit their exposure and liability. |

Rep Power: 35 | Re: Teens and Airbrush Tanning Parents don't have a legal right for everything their teens do. Some states allow a teen to get an abortion without parental consent. This just came out to: WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Seventeen-year-olds will have access to the so-called "morning-after" pill without a prescription, U.S. health regulators said on Wednesday, allowing greater over-the-counter sales of emergency contraception that had been restricted to those 18 and older.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Teens and Airbrush Tanning That is very true ekc, but there are some spray techs who don't have people sign waivers, and don't check age of high schoolers. There are also some who do tanning parties prior to proms and school dances where all the parents aren't always present....... Like I said this was simply posted as a reminder to everyone.... |

Re: Teens and Airbrush Tanning Not being in the U.S. I am unable to comment on the legal issues you guy's have over there however we of course do have similar problems with this here in the UK where there is no legislation to cover such issues. The main problem therapists face is finding mid ground where sensibility/safety and commercialism can live together in harmony. Here in the UK for under 18's the therapist may or may not ask for parental waver however of course kids are clever tike's and if they want something they cant have they will always find a way of getting it(I remember forging sick notes from my parents when I wanted to hop school)and easily can forge documents..whilst a lot of minors look older than 18 any way's ....were offering spray tans for goodness sakes and not selling liquor to minors. Consider sensibility and of course the aspect of possible abuse claims by some kids who are after nothing other than a free tan and or attention. If in doubt what to do in a given situation always approach things from a precautionary aspect..try and cover all the possibilities as we do live in a weird and twisted world at times. | |
