Re: Mobile spray tanners, how is business?

Shawnalyn,

Very sorry to hear about that. I hope you'll be allright. I too am having some difficulty getting this going. I have almost given up on it twice, but I really want to hang in there. There are no personalized spray tan / airbrush services within approximately 400 miles in all directions of me! 60 miles away, you can find just a couple of salons that offer the mystic booth but that is it.
I think I can make this work, I guess I'm just not approaching things right because I have not gotten really anywhere yet. It's been about 6 weeks now. I know I have to give it some time, but I'm just not seeing any interest. My community is a nice town with mostly middle to upper class residents. I'm asking no more than $30. mobile which I know is low, but as you can see I don't even have bites on that, so what to do???

Re: Mobile spray tanners, how is business?

I would work a referal program of some sort, perhaps use your existing clients to refer friends and family for a $10 credit toward their next spray. Also, you could offer to spray the high school cheerleaders for free, and get referrals from them after their friends see how they look. I mean it costs very little other than your time to do a couple freebies... I already own a chain of indoor tanning salons, and was considering starting a mobile business in my market. We get calls for airbrush consistently, and currently offer mystic. There are some clients that will come in and do a mystic session, but there are several that insist on an airbrush . I am just a little leary on sending a staffmember into someones home? It almost seems like yu would want to send 2 staffmembers just for a more secure setting. What is the going rate for a mobile spray?

Anywhere from $30-$100, varies a lot. I work mine by travel area is X amount + travel fees outside that area. The most I have ever charged was $65 for a 40min drive, and it was 9pm on a friday night (after hours).

Just a question? I know you can carry insurance and all, but when you do this in a home or office setting, (and I know you have the tents or covers) but as we ALL know the overspray no matter how much or how little it does get on things,...

what happens if your client states your overspray, got on my expensive marble white tub and or on the furniture or in the room where you sprayed and it is on an item..

how do you cover it? dollars wise..? does insurance cover this or do you need a separate bonding insurance coverage?

Re: Mobile spray tanners, how is business?

First of all my release form clearly states that they cannot hold me liable for any property damage. I have never gotten solution in a clients home. I am telling you the tents work awesome, I just make sure there are no fans on, or anything like a vent around. Also, I make sure they are really in the tent so it catches all overspray, and put a drop cloth in front of the tent. My insurance would cover up to a certain amount, but with my release form I should hopefully never have to use it.

Just wondering how the bridal show was and of you got alot of business? We want to do a show in Feb in Baltimore, it's a $1000 for a table, just wondering if it will be worth it! Thanks.

Re: Mobile spray tanners, how is business?

The bridal show was a flop! The cost of the booth was minimal but I did spend more than I should have on all of the brochures, professional entry forms, and decorations. There wasn't a great turnout and the location was not in a good part of the city. It was my first one, and the booth rental was super cheap ($40) so I didn't lose much money. I will be doing it again in a better venue, with a more popular event. $1000 seems incredibly high to me! I guess if you were exposed to 1000's of people it could be a good investment. How many people came last year to the show? You could ask and see what the projection is for this show and do the math to see if it is worth it. Good luck!

I have heard that from others that bridal shows are not the way to go. Funny, seems like they would be good.
