Burnt lips after airbrush tan???

OK, so my lips were a little dry/ chapped to begin with. I put on some basic chapstick before my airbrush tan. within 48 hours they got worse and the chapstick is NOT working. After 6 days I have uniformly burnt and blistered lips... and they hurt. I've had several spray tans before without this issue. Has anyone ever heard of this kind of reaction?

I've never had that happen to any of my clients. You might want to have your artist switch your solution over to an organic spray and a little tip I give my clients is to tuck their lips in when I spray the chin and under the nose area. I shoot the face in 4 increments though, it's vital to me that their face, jawline and neck are perfect. Hope your lips feel better soon.

the chapstick is to protect your lips from the spray during your session. did you not wipe it off as soon as the session was done? and if not .... why not? this is pretty elementary.

Re: Burnt lips after airbrush tan???

I had chapstick on, yes. Did not wipe off afterward. I have had them feel dry before but never develop a uniform raised burn. All the way around. (it's not a cold sore). The only thing I did different was set the spray using 4 min in a tanning bed. I'm hoping that vaseline will work next time or that something else might have caused it cause I love my tan. It's supposedly organic spray and I love the color...
But, my lips are according to my Dr. suffering from a 2nd degree burn and it is the tan is the most obvious culprit for a chemical-type allergy.

Oh dam I'm sorry. I walked into a thread of people huffing gas fumes.

Carry on...(what the **** is going on here???!?!?!?)

you think 4 minutes in a tanning bed gave you 2nd degree burns?? sounds extremely unlikely. two things you need to wipe off your chapstick after your spray or there is no sense in using it. if you tan before or after your spray you need to use chapstick with sunblock in it.

Re: Burnt lips after airbrush tan???

Highly unlikely that 4 minutes in any bed caused a 2nd degree burn. Were you kissing the bulbs? lol j/k

What type of chapstick was it? Are you sure you weren't allergic to it?

Re: Burnt lips after airbrush tan???

Thanks for input. I think I will take your suggestion and try putting on chapstick with spf and removing it directly after. I'm still baffled... and seeing a Derm Dr. monday.
