hairy men

Hi everyone

First of all I'd like to thank everyone here at tantalk for being so forthright in providing us newbies with tons of invaluable information. Much appreciated.

I've been reading posts for the last week so its time to start posting some questions of my own. My wife and I are starting a mobile airbrush service in Vancouver BC and we've decided on the Infinity Sun system. She'll do the tanning and I'll do the marketing for the most part.

First question comes from my wife. What do you do about men? Hairy legs, chests and backs. Also bald and shaved heads. Can these guys be airbrushed or do they have to shave first.

thank you

Re: hairy men

don't make them look like a cue ball... spray it just like you would the rest of their body. if they are hairy and you are a new at this the infinity sun spa is VERY easy.... use the bronzing lotion and soak them but not so much it will take a day to dry them lol i do well with using high on them. just enough that you see they are covered completely.

Re: hairy men

Thanks for the response eileen. When you say bronzing lotion you must mean the bronze tanning solution rather than the clear tanning solution . You're right, we are very new at this. Neither one of us has ever done a spray tan to this point and I have concerns about that. Eileen, I know you use the Infinity Sun Spa in your business and I was hoping you would respond to this post. I have a couple concerns that I would appreciate your opinion on.

My first concern is our lack of experience at airbrushing. All we get from IS for training is a DVD. I have a huge family and lots of friends to practice on and I'm sure we'll do at least 25 to 30 practice tans before we get started. So assuming that we are fairly competent people, can we put out a quality product after studying a DVD and doing 30 practice runs.

Another concern I have is, through all my dealings with Infinity Spa I have yet to see anything pertaining to tech support. Is there any? Also how is their service when you place an order?

thank you

Re: hairy men

I can imagine in my wildest dreams it would take that many people to practice on. Now I not very up to date on the infinity system but I am under the impression that it works quite a bit like my hvlp's and if I am correct the force from the spray will more the hair out of the way and if your client looks like a werwolf you wouldn't be able to see it even if it did get thru. If i am wrong someone please tell me. I don't want to be sharing bad info.

Re: hairy men

When we got the Infinity Sun Spa I believe it showed up on a Saturday. We did at least 5 sprays before we even had our phone support lesson. It's extremely easy. I never watched the DVD but one of my employees did. I have found all you need to do is 5 bodies. I have the girls do their first 5 free, their second 5 at half price then they all seem to be ready for full price by 10 bodies. It's simple. Probably the best tip I could give is to keep moving at all times.

Re: hairy men

I called tech support one time and got an answer immediately and was told how to prime the machine. It was our fault we didn't have the bottle completely secured. We've had it 9 months now and no issues to call about. Veronique and Alex are very good with orders through email communication. You can call as well but if you're like me up until the wee hours of the morning it's nice to place orders online. :)

Re: hairy men

I find tanning men with lost of body hair take a bit more time and solution . My saving grace is a body sponge, I gently pat them to be sure all of the solution is removed from the hair folicals and patted onto the skin. This insures that there is no soltution left on the hair other wise you could end up with a man who looks like he has frekles.

Re: hairy men

I'm a good example of what the original poster is referring to. I shave my head, have hairy arms, legs and chest. I'm kinda new at this, but what I've noticed so far is that even when my skin seems to have dried, the solution on my hair is still very wet. Girlietan's advice sounds pretty good. What I've been doing so far is just lightly patting the hairy areas with a paper towel. I like the sponge idea. Seems like enough solution is making it's way past the hair, though. Haven't noticed the tan being uneven in the hairy areas. The shaved head is no problem.

A lot of therapists are cautious when it comes to spray tanning bald or hairy men which at first is quiet understandable..that said once you have undertaken the treatment a couple of times its a breeze.

Bald heads need the "less is more" rule applying and just lightly mist this area....better to have to top up rather than to have to try and somehow reduce over tanning.....of course never spray a shaved head for at least 24hrs post shaving to avoid "spotting"

On hairy areas..just treat these as normal if you are using a HVLP hand held system and don't worry if solution sticks to hairs as these can simply be blown over with air from your gun once you have completed the treatment so the droplets are forced onto the skin surface off the hair..this way there is no need for sponging/wiping.

For booths then simply dab any access solution on hairs with either a sponge /tissue or cloth.
