Unhappy Resperation problems

Has anyone had any respriation problems due to spray tanning ? I spray on average 20 to 30 clients per week in a well ventilated room. I also wear a N95 rated face mask. My problem is I feel like I am constently 'clearing my throat'. My husband says it gets worse throughout the week, and then when I'm not spraying on the weekends it gets better by Monday. I have only been wearing the masks for about a month, and I can see some improvement(but not much). I am really worried because in the next few weeks I will be spraying 40 to 50 clients each week.

I have been spray tanning for almost 2 years and I have a really healthy clientelle(@800). I really love what I do, and I really don't want to stop, but if I can't figure something out----I am going to have to.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Sharon.

You are breathing in tinted water. What do you think is going to happen?

Sharon,
we are not fish so our lungs like to breath in dry clean air.

Whilst there are no know adverse reactions to inhaling spray tan solution (unless of course you have a reaction to the solution being used) we will start to suffer if we are breathing in to much solution through airborne particles.

You are doing pretty well with your spray tan numbers there (well done) but given your wearing a mask, this isn't exceptional and really shouldn't cause you to much discomfort.

Could it be that you don't have adequate extraction/air cleansing in place in the room you do the spraying....essential for getting excess airborne particles removed and makes the spray tan experience much more comfortable for both parties.....also considerably aids in the reduction of over spray onto feet.

Re: Resperation problems

I know this might be a stupid question...

have you been using a gun cleaner/ airbrush cleaner after your sprays?

The only time I personally experienced the issues you're having was when I cleaned my gun. the overspray/fumes from the cleaner caused almost the same adverse reactions that you stated

I switched over to rubbing alcohol or windex and all was better for me.

Talking Re: Resperation problems

Thank you all for your replies!

collin:
The room I spray in has two extraction fans with filters which I change out about every 10 sprays or so. The owner of my salon built it and I truly believe it provides adequite ventalation for the room.

As for over spray on the feet, I use a product called 'construction paper'. Builders use it when they are building or working on structures to minimize the mess. When the solution lands on the paper, it immediately dries and there is no transfer off onto the feet. I also lay a towel down for them to enter and to exit the room(the towel is moved into the drying room for the tan appliction.).

kggonline:
I do clean my gun on a weekly basis. I always use a mild solution of ammonia and water (1TBS ammonia to 2 quarts water). I also use this to clean the room. Same as Windex.

ecc30:
I'm glad that I'm not the only one experiencing problems.

On my secret.... well, I guess word of mouth. My best form of marketing has to be my referral program. For every 5 new clients someone briings me, I give them a free tan. You would be surprised how well this works. I would say 65 to 75% of my clientelle are repeat clients. It also helps that alot of the people spray tanning around here don't have a clue what they are doing. I know I have fixed alot of their mistakes.

Hey guys, the DHA is kinda drying to the lung tissue, i've ran into the same issue a few years ago, i solved it with better ventilation. Just make sure you have more ventialtion than you think you'll need. '
My symptoms were the same... always trying to clear mny throat and a light half coulf after a big tanning day. OOhhh i forgot dark brown bugers too !!! :):):) have a great day all!!!
