Rep Power: 0 | Any one see the trash talk on tanning beds & skin cancer from the Today show this am? They were talking about exposure to tanning beds before the age of 35 increases the chances of melanoma by 75%. that's a pretty steep number. I know alot of it is media cooersion/manipulation/perspective and of course coppertone is trying to pitch their newest "money" making machine, etc... I'm not that nieve. As people in business though, I would be amiss to think this wouldnt somehows help to turn a profit for my side of the tanning industry. I would be kidding myself if I wasn't trying to target people who do not want to get into tanning beds. In fact, during prom season, I had numerous calls from mothers wanting their daughters air brushed instead of tanning in the beds. That being said, I was given this great advice by my vendor who happens to offer me alot of great advice as far as liability goes. I have a link from my website directly to the FDA site on Sunless Tanning. Some of you might think that as crazy, but for liability purposes, it actually makes a lot of sense. I also have people sign waivers and provide them a list of risks and procedures. Half of them sign without even glancing. I don't ever want to be told I withheld information. Oh, and I never say its "all natural". Thats like inviting a law suit later on down the line when more research about sunless airbrushing is readily avail and their so much we don't know yet. I only say its been approved fda "safe for use."

Rep Power: 35 | Re: Any one see the trash talk on tanning beds & skin cancer from the Today show this The best thing I did was add costmetic tanning. Here is what I do. While I'm spray tanning the client I get to educate them about how UV tanning is actually FDA approved and spray tanning is not FDA approved. I think that is one of the biggest misconceptions out there. Of course all of this has been in our client release forms since day 1. I go on to tell the client that I've done everything for them to protect them from what has not yet been approved. In about 100 sprays only one has turned down the 5 minute UV tan that comes with their full body spray. As far as the TV show unfortunately I never get time to watch TV so I'm pretty immune to it. When I read misleading one sided articles online I try to make time to reply to the article or editor. :)

The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act), Section 721 authorizes the regulation of color additives (other than coal-tar hair dyes), including their uses and restrictions. These regulations are found in Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR), beginning at Part 70. If a color additive is not permitted by regulation or is used in a way that does not comply with the specific regulation(s) authorizing its use, it is considered unsafe under the law. Such misuse of color additives causes a cosmetic to be adulterated. | |

Or else what? The ITA should buy off the FDA like everyone else has - problem solved! I'm ok now. Do whatever they say - just don't let them bust you doing the right thing.

Rep Power: 18 | Re: Any one see the trash talk on tanning beds & skin cancer from the Today show this I only quoted a portion of a whole document. However, it includes any DHA product that is applied through a "spray" technique. "When using DHA-containing products as an all-over spray or mist in a commercial spray "tanning" booth, it may be difficult to avoid exposure in a manner for which DHA is not approved, including the area of the eyes, lips, or mucous membrane, or even internally." |
