Question Calling all Florida mobile tanners

I am just starting my mobile spray tan business in North Florida. I've had a couple nay-sayers putting in their negative input and telling me they don't think this business will do well because, of course in FL, we have plenty of sunshine and getting tan is not really an issue. They are saying spray tanning does really well up north because there is a lot less oppurtunity to lay out in the sun.
I am trying not to let these negative opinions bother me. I realize that there will always be people that won't want to get tans naturally because of lack of time or skin cancer scares, etc....
So I would like some input from some of you (mobile especially) that are located in Florida - how's business? Do you still find plenty of demand? Are you able to make a living off this?
Anything you guys can share would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

From what I have heard spray tanning is even more popular is warm states.Arizona,Texas. Only problem I could possibly see for Florida would be your humidity. Even then, some solutions are better than others in humid areas.

Re: Calling all Florida mobile tanners

I'm in Orlando and it's sunless is popular here. I have a wide variety of clients. When I first got started, I thought it would be mainly younger girls. I actually have more "soccer moms" than anything. I am also a nail technician in a salon and between the both I am as busy as I can be. I am starting to weed out some nail services and clients to make more room in my schedule for the tanning...more $$.

I have never quite grasped the concept of mobile tanning. Unless you are dealing with high profile people and celebrities who wouldn't want people recognizing them. It seems like with travel time, set up time, spray time, break down time and travel to the next site you would need to be charging about $150. I work in a very "upscale" area but people are still mindful of price. I can't see many people paying that when they can go to the salon or tanning place that's 5 minutes away and pay $40 or $50.

Obviously, this is just my opinion. Things may be different in your area. I think tanning is popular here because we are outside and showing alot of skin all year long. So, people that can't go out in the sun or just don;t get a nice tan still want to look good like everybody else. Good luck to you!

Ultimately how successful you are at it will be up to you. I would think you would do even more cosmetic tans in a sunny climate. I agree with ecc30.
