I have previously owned a spa and tanning salon in NC and offered airbrush tanning. I sold the business 5 years ago. I am considering starting a mobile tanning service in my new location and offer tanning parties only.
My question to those of you who do this... did you get certified for spray tanning or just hands-on training. Before, I was certified for tanning in general through NCDNR. (But that was more for UV beds). If you have been certified, who did you get it from?

None of my clients have any Certifications. Go to a trade show and whoever you get a system from will give you hands on training. I remember awhile back Iheard of a company that was only that you would take a test and get a printable paper saying you were certified. If I remeber correctly, some people took the test just to make sure they knew what they were doing but didn't pay the money to get the actual certification. I will see if I can find the post for you

I completed an online certification thru NTTI:

And then LOTS of hands-on training. My system came with a training DVD.

I am NC and I got certified through American Tanning Institue. you don't have to. However I do think it looks and sounds better to people when you say you are certified.

where in NC are you now?

I lived in Fayetteville, NC, but I'm in Alabama now. I don't need the training as I have already done that when I bought the system years ago. I had never even considered mobile tanning or tanning parties until I purchased a new system and started reading tantalk. I bought the system just to use on myself, but I got excited about spray tanning again. I'd love to pursue tanning parties. I thought the same thing as kdhtan, that having a "certified technician" sounded more professional. I did take a test online just to see what it entailed, and it was just knowledge based. Anyone could pass it if they knew much about spray tanning. It definitely didn't have anything to do with your ability to spray someone correctly. I passed it but didn't purchase the certificate. I also received a training CD from one of the companies I've ordered products from. It was the same information that you can get online.
I was just curious if you guys were certified, or if it even mattered to your clients.

OMG! Certification to spraypaint?! Are you out of your effing minds? God help us, every one. ****! You people are stealing money out of the pockets of 90% of the members on this site for a God ****** 1/8th of the investment. But I digress ...
