Bodybuilders??

I've been networking with some bodybuilders, trying to get some business. Honestly though, I'm nervous about tanning them. They need to be super-dark, and I'm not quite sure how to get someone that dark. I doubt I'll find anyone that will let me practice on them to make them that dark either.
Have any of you sprayed a bodybuilder before? What did you do to get the color as dark as possible? Do you know if they were streaky after their competition?

Re: Bodybuilders??

A lot of what you see is applied right before they compete, a LOT of topical bronzers/dye. Just tan them like you would anyone else and use a top notch lotion.

Re: Bodybuilders??

Ok, here's the deal:
Bodybuilders etc tan for a month or so before competition and alot do spray before as well. However, the nite before they use certain products made for competition. Most by ProTan. That is what gets them insanely dark. Some use a spray but one made for competing. So, I doubt you will be able to get them that dark on your own!!

Re: Bodybuilders??

Pro Tan, Jan Tana, and Tampa Bay Tan (Show Glow) all have specific solutions for body builders. It has a darker color guide, so you spray the body builders, but they don't wash it off before competing. They go to the contest with the dark colorguide on, and many will even add their own oil which has a tint to it, or spray themselves with pro tans or one of the other formulas again.

Re: Bodybuilders??

I have one bodybuilder woman who has been getting sprayed at my salon and was asking the same thing so I contacted Thomas Painter at Breeze Products and he sent me a sample of a "competition blend" that they make just for that purpose. You can try it out and modify it if necessary to your needs (likes). Give Thomas a call: 888-330-8570

Re: Bodybuilders??

Hi All - I am in this industry as a figure competitor and have many friends that are professional and amateur bodybuilders. I have an airbrush system and simply use the competition ProTan solution instead of my airbrush solution. I have them supply me with the ProTan Comp Solution and I spray it on! I usually do 2 sessions for bodybuilders with ProTan, so typically takes 2 days. I use 2 full 8oz bottles of the ProTan solution that they bring in. I use all 8 oz each day! Their color will be perfectly dark... just the way we like it on stage. After that, there is no need for extras. Some bodybuilders I have done have chose not to shower before they go on stage and wear the ProTan on stage. I have others that shower. If tehy shower before, it will be a bit lighter.. just as normal airbrushes are lighter after they shower off the cosmetic bronzer. So it depends on the bodybuilder and how dark they want to be. If they do not wash it off and leave it on when they go on stage, and sweat, some of that cosmetic bronzer will sweat off - just have them be careful. I have had nothing but positive feedback from this!

I would in no way try to get them uber dark from the tanning bed - the darkness they need to be cannot come from UV tanning - it has to be fake or the damnage to their skin would be crazy! That is what I do for myself and all the bodybuilders I airbrush! Hope that helps!

Talking Re: Bodybuilders??

Hello! I am an IFBB Figure Pro and competed in the 2006 Arnold Classic in Columbus! (I couldn't get a photo to upload) Bodybuilders do need to be really tan to show off every muscle fiber on stage. You shouldn't be afaid to tap into this market. There are many oportunities to grow your business! When tanning a competitor you really need to make sure there skin is free of any oil or lotion because the color you apply will most likely have to stay on for a couple days before they shower. You should start tanning them the night prior to the show with a couple light coats. (They DO NOT SHOWER) Then follow up the morning of the show with another one or two coats. Average cost is $100 - $125.

Ultimate Competition Bronze is another product on the market for bodybuilders.

I am happy to answer any other questions you have!

Re: Bodybuilders??

For body builders we use a 12.5% dark and add dha drops per the individual. I usually recommend they come in every other day before competition for a week. By using dha and not just bronzer they can shower, add oil, do whatever the day of competition.

Re: Bodybuilders??

You could also use a one day spray that has a very dark color giude to it that way they will not streak. I am not very up to date on body building. Do they sweat while competing? That would make a difference. Be sure to not over spray them with the really high DHA solutions it will not wear nicely.
