Temporary Airbrush Tattoos

I purchased some stencils and paints and tried them out for the first time over the weekend. After doing two tattoos, my airbrush clogged up and would only spray air. My husband took the thing apart for me and cleaned it and now it works fine. I haven't tried any more tattoos though.
Any suggestions on adjustments I can make so that the paint doesn't clog up my airbrush everytime I use it?

Re: Temporary Airbrush Tattoos

Are you running alcohol through it when done? You have to run something through to purge it of all paint.

I was using a 50/50 mix of alcohol and distilled water, but it was already clogged at that point. Maybe next time I'll just try alcohol by itself and see what happens.

We only used straight up alcohol. Smelly, but worked. Of course, follow that with plenty of air.

Re: Temporary Airbrush Tattoos

I do mobile spray tan parties, so I'm offering them in conjunction with these. Also offering them separately as entertainment for kids birthday parties/entertainment at corporate events (think company picnic). I also will have a booth at a couple of our local fairs this year and plan to sell the tattoos at the fair. I'm thinking it will pay for the cost of my booth (where I will also be promoting the spray tanning).
I'm not sure how well you could sell them if you weren't mobile though. We'll see how much of a market there is for it. I already had an airbrush, so I spent less than $150 to get started with the tattoos.

wow, im impressed by your idea to market the tattoos to kids parties using the airbrush you already have. how much do you charge? did you just go to joanns/micheals to buy stencils? brilliant!
btw, im new to the mobile tanning party business too. ive had my laser equipment about 3 weeks. im having modest beginnings. how long have you been in the business?

For the parties I'm charging $50/hour (one tattoo per guest) for 2 colors, $75/hour (one tattoo per guest) up to 8 color choices. At my tan parties I charge just $5 per tattoo for the smaller (one color) tattoos. For more detailed, bigger, or more colors - more money!

You can buy stencils on ebay specifically for doing temporary tattoos, or you can buy stencils from Hobby Lobby/JoAnn's - wherever.

I've been in the business for just over 1 month now. I've hosted 4 parties and have 2 more this weekend.

Re: Temporary Airbrush Tattoos

Hi Blondie! Very interesting post... i've been thinking of offering temp. tatts in the salon. I have a large spray tanning following and the tatts seem to be a logical next step. How do you advertise your service? Also, interested in what brand of equipment you are using? I've checked out many manufactures web sites... and they all have the best, biggest selection, best paint, best service... sales people drive me nuts!!! Thanks in advance for any info. you can offer!!!

Re: Temporary Airbrush Tattoos

I owned a spa in NC, offering tanning, airbrush tanning, pedi's and mani's. My nail tech was the one that went to a conference and was introduced to TATs, temporary airbush tattoos. She bought the basic set which was pricey but she got everything that she needed. They also offered a 1 month buy back guarantee. She did well with both her clients as well as my tanners. They were easy to do with little airbrush experience. She also went to local fairs and such and set up a booth. I was envious and wish I had seen it before she did!!! (Especially when my airbrush tanners went to her for their TATs)
