employee compensation

How do you compensate one of your employees that spray tan? Do they just get
their regular pay or do they get extra money for spraying? If they get extra money for spraying, how much?

Re: employee compensation

I would think the client should tip the person spraying...do they?

Re: employee compensation

It depends how you structure it. If it is a dedicated employee for the spray, I normally recommend an hourly + commission + tips. We see best results in our salons with what we term "Infinity Sun Ambassadors" which are specially trained technicians who take ownership of the service they are providing. This would include promoting to local & in house business, keeping tabs on stock, keeping the room clean, performing the service & selling the enhancement products. The more they see it as "their own business" the harder they work to build it & the more care they take to make it successful. It is certainly more money out the door but the business will grow much more rapidly and the result is a higher return. If you choose not to have one point person and have a few employees who work in the store performing sprays, I would still offer a commission structure in addition to their hourly, as this offers greater incentive to promote the service. The amount of pay depends on your location but usually 10%-15% is a nice enough bonus when added to the hourly & tips.

I'm confused. What was your original question? Sounded like you answered your own....

Re: employee compensation

I think you should already have a commission plan established for different services in your salon like spraying, selling lotion, packages, etc.

Re: employee compensation

No offence Claudine, but how did that answer my question? We don't do the air brushing yet, so how am I going to have a commission package established for it. So should I have a commission package set for washing cars already if we don't do that but we could in the future? What I am trying to find out is, what is the industry standard to pay someone that air brushes for me.

No offence taken, you just dont explain yourself very well, how are we suppose to know that you dont do air burshing already in your salon. Read your mind ? As far as the carwash that could be an option for you!

Re: employee compensation

It really didn't matter if I did air brushing or not already. I asked 3 questions, you answered none. So what was your point in your reply?
