I have another question..... when people post pictures of people they have sprayed to show how dark the people are, is that after the processing time or what? How do you know how dark a person is going to be right away? Even in pictures in the ads they show a really dark tan. Is that just bronzer or what?

Prob. cosmetic bronzer. But the color you choose should be close to what you sprayed w. cosmetic bronzer unless you added more cosmetic bronzer.

The color guard/cosmetic bronzer: I usually tell clients this is temporary and will wash off, but the developed color should be close to what they see presently or a little darker after they process. :)

I just opened my studio, customized airbrush spray tans is what I offer and I am getting 2-5 new people calling everyday. I already have 5 regulars. We just started in May of this year, opened to the public really in late June. I think sunless, especially customized airbrush/spray tans will just continue to get more popular.

I would love to hear some marketing ideas! to get my name out there faster!!! Bravo tan I have been reading and following tan talk since April, you seem to be the resident pro on sunless. Do you have any marketing ideas for me? To save you some time, here is what I have already done.

1. Put out a val pak coupon mailer to 60,000 homes for 3 month
2. Offer a referral program, pass out my business cards with your name on it, if 3 come back to me you get a free full body tan.
3. Open house once a month
4. My sister is a hairstylist so I tan her for free and everyone asks her how she got so dark she has referred me 15 people already!
5. I put a flyer for a discounted tan in the employee break rooms of the QFC, PUD and Curves in my area.
6. Went to all the local customer care businesses and gave out gift certificates for free tans, restaurants, gyms, coffee shops.
7. I have customized chap sticks in each dressing room the client gets to take with them, they have my web address, phone and name on them (easy access to schedule another appt)


I need more ideas!!

6. Look good feel good programs: S/P cancer patients. OBGYN: alternative to or inaddition to sunbathing, Dermatologist hook ups., Plastic Surgeons office staff to promote the look !
7. Hook up with your local bridal/formal shops!
8. Your very popular Nail specialist/Spa or hair dresser is a good one as you are already doing
9. Charity Events: Believe me raffles are big,since you are giving away gift certificates anyway, at least at those charity events your salon & YOU get written promos or mentions publicly.
10. Last but definately not least: YOUR favorite TV Anchors, Radio or local Celebrity. Offer free service. No better advertisment then the mention on TV credits: "hair/make up and skin care offered by XYZ...

I feel kinda like I just flipped to a feminine products infomercial. You go,girls! Don't mind me, I just want to throw this in real quick. In response to the thread title: DHA is a "time-release" component that develops the result in the skin after certain reactions have taken place, over time. The same goes for regular UV tanning in the beds, or in the sun. Nobody is going to step out of any tanning session with "instant color". That is unless they rubbed or were sprayed with something containing a "stain" - ie "Bronzer"; which is not to be confused with the verbiage on some indoor tanning lotions that state they have "Bronzing" ingredients or effects. Hope this helps. Please, carry on ladies!

Oh, come on now.. we are all in the same boat just trying to be supportive.

My pics are just after being sprayed, alot of my clients come in to get sprayed to go out, or go to a special event. The bronzer I use is not a dye it is just a cosmetic that has little to no rub off... and it take 4-6 hours to get the color to start showing. After the first shower they will see their true tan lines. That is where the hip before and afters come into play... that is true color 12-24 hours later. Women wear make up all the time, cosmetics sprayed on the body is not different it is just new, some people have a hard time with the idea.. while others just enjoy it!!!
