Hi everyone,
I've come here looking for answers from the people that do this stuff every day! I currently work in a traditional tanning salon w/LP and HP units. We do not offer any sunless services and over the years I've noticed an increasing amount of people coming in looking for airbrushing or spray booths. I know where the Mystic tan booths are and turn the customer away to someone else’s doors…. But now I want a piece of the action!

I'm starting to research the possibility of opening my own mobile sunless spray tanning business. I would like to offer spray tans in the comfort of the clients home as well as spray tan parties and a regular clientele.

It's my understanding the HVLP systems are the new thing in sunless. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone has on what machines they are using and like best or dislike as well as what all I would need for start-up.

My biggest concern is the DHA solution itself. What is everyone using? Are there different levels of DHA concentrate for different skin tones? What do you have on hand every day at your salons? What about barrier creams and other pre/post sunless products?

Again, I'm a newbie and I'm just trying to soak in as much knowledge as I can before I start calling the manufactures.

I have done airbrush tanning for 5 years now... always with the same product. Everyones loves it. There are 2 types of people, the ones that want to bake, and the ones that dont. As far as taking it mobile, I havent had very good experience with it. Overspray in anyones home or bathroom is a HUGE mess. To do more than one person in that same place really sets you up for alot of cleaning or leaving the client with more than they bargained for. Find a great product and company you believe in, learn as much as you can about skin types, and learn HOW to spray. Your best advertisement for people who are so suspicious of a crappy sunless tan ARE the clients when they are tanned. Make sure you know what you are doing before you do it and just always make it as professional as possible. I love it, my clients love it...

I bought a salon with 7 beds and sold them all to do this 100% of the time... never 1 regret.

Heres the deal... there are 2 major chains where I am. I did not WANT to compete with either one who didnt have airbrush tanning in the first place. Since I and the other technition I hired were doing enough spay tans to support the business we wanted, we sold the beds.

AGAIN, no regrets AND everyone I tan, loves it.
