I am thinking about starting a mobile spray tanning business. I own a salon/spa and have seen great success with the Infinity Theater by Infinity Sun, but I am getting so many requests to spray tan off site. I'm thinking about buying their Infinity Spa and making this service available at hotels, parties, people's houses etc. Are there any salon owners out there who do this? If so, how does it impact your existing business? How much more do you charge to do it off site? How much do you pay someone to do it? So many questions...Thanks, KA

a guy did that in my town, 10 months after opening the business he shot himself.

He had a small area beside a gym, had a room for spray and a stand up and did mobile sprays to.

so after he shot himself his wife sold it and the numbers where NOT good at all. and there where rumors of harrassment and other rumors. going to someones home IMHO is NOT a smart business move.

Thanks, Mali. I see how risky it could be but I know we have a market for it. I've been in business for 7 years and have a 17 room salon and bringing in sunless was not an easy decision for me. But, I got my machine two months ago and it's already almost paid off (3 spray tans away, to be precise). The only reason why I'm thinking about doing it is because so many people are asking for it. Where I live, there are events going on and I am the go-to salon for many of the high end hotels. So, I am trying to get feedback from people who do it (successfully) to determine the best strategy going forward. Sorry to hear about your friend though :-)

wasn't a friend .... technically he was my comp. I looked at buying the business because it was located beside a gym and I figured I could put in one more booth and do spray there, the price was only 5k and the client list and booth where worth more then that. but the numbers and cost to operate where not there.

oh. What I really should say was my concern would be on the liable end of being in a home setting with a nude or close to nude person, I think that needs to be done in a business type setting.

People talk ..... ya know? there are already a billion rumors about salons, can you imagine the rumors of you going to someones hotel or home?? just not professional, again IMO.

That's a good point, but think about how many massage therapists do just that and are able to keep it professional and above board. Besides, a cold spray just doesn't arouse, if ya know what I mean LOL!
