Challenging Areas

Once in a blue moon I have a customer that has a part of their body e.g. calf area that doesn't take the solution well leaving it lighter.

Has anyone else had this experience and what have you done to correct it?

When I spray such challenging areas I can tell, usually it doesn't tan well or at all in the sun either. I spray it over being careful not to over spray it and tell them if they need to come back for a touch up they can at no cost. I mean, what else can you do..right

Re: Challenging Areas

It isnt absorbing the solution ? Never had an issue with that. Sometimes people will say it didnt take, but it is usually because it rubs off on their clothes when they leave, removing what I sprayed.

Re: Challenging Areas

I've seen that too, and I believe that's an issue usually caused by smooth skin texture, @ too smooth, extremely exfoliated by friction of garments, leg crossing, legs against car seat, basically they are buffing the skin off that area without realizing it. The super smooth skin doesn't take the tan as well it seems.
I've only seen it a few times but i know what your talking about, and its always on the same people too, like if they sit at a desk alot they also wear the tan off their ankles too! I usually just offer a touch up if they need it. Like i said good thing its not everyone.

I believe that is exactly what causes it.

Re: Challenging Areas

Offering a touch up like you do is the perfect way to keep a client happy & have them talking about what great customer service you offer.
I have a couple of girls who the back of their leg at knee seems to be lighter almost every time they tanned. We finally figured out it is because they sweat there after tanning when sitting which takes off some of the solution . I now send them home with a small bottle of the tanning lotion I carry & they touch it up themselves when they don't have time to come back for a quick touch up at the salon :-)

Re: Challenging Areas

My theory is do a perfect job in the first place and you will not have to take the time to touch them up later. Plus the tan already starts fading, so touching them up may not match what the tan has faded to. I do offer to touch them up within 24 hours, but in 7 years have only done it once...and she got rained on.

Re: Challenging Areas

I had this with one person recently. The fronts of her shins wouldn't tan. Everywhere else looked great. She came back and I tried to fix it...same result. The skin on the front of her shins was super shiny and smooth. It just would not absorb the solution no matter what I did. Her daughter tanned with me at the same time and her tan turned out beautiful, so thankfully she knew it wasn't something I had done but rather just a fluke thing with her skin.
