Re: Sunless Airbrush Systems
We have been useing the Magic Tan spray system since December and love it, great results, lots of repeat business, that says it all as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Sunless Airbrush Systems
I know that it sounds like a joke, but I have been using that unit to spray for about 2 years now. Started out using an airbrush before that.
Think about the fact that the Wagner unit was designed to spray finishes on cabinetry. It is much harder than spraying a person. Any imperfections will show. Spraying CalTan premium on everyone. If they are really fair skin, spray a light mist, if they are dark, spray it heavy. I like the clear because it is really impressive when the color seems to develop out of nothing, but my tech has trouble spraying evenly when she can't see it. Honestly, like in most things, it ain't the equipment, it's how you use it! I mean did you really think that they invented a special spraying apparatus just for DHA application? i also built my spray room. Used white fiberglass panels to line the walls, built a paltform with a drain in it for the customer to stand on (I'm 6'3" so I like having them stand on a 6" platform so I don't have to stoop over). The drain has a catch basin and a sump pump. Drain line runs up from the platform into the drop ceiling and back to the washing machine drain. After cleaning the spray gun, fill with water and cleaner to spray the walls down and wash overspray down the drain. I also have a large bathroom exhaust fan and a filter mounted over the spray area to catch most of the overspray. Last edited by billable; 03-16-2006 at 10:00 AM. |

Re: Sunless Airbrush Systems
Billable......have you used any other system except for the one at Lowes? Just wondering if you find it comparable to the others. Does anyone want to buy my Caltan Custom Bronzer????????????????????? ( Just thinking how to sell it in a town close by, and buy the Lowes system, as I had to take out a loan at the bank for the caltan) Anyone else out there use something "different" like Billable?

Re: Sunless Airbrush Systems
I have both the CustomBronzer 4000 (portable-ish) and the prior version the TurboBronzer 3000. They are loud - the 3000 is REALLY loud. I used to take the 4000 around to 3 salons to share, but now just keep it at one and only take it out to do a bridal party or other groups or promotional events (which is clutch). I am having technical difficulties with the spray gun and have to finagle (sp?) it to not get it all over my hands. But my clients love the results - no doubt. The booth is so not individualized - I mean, a hand-held spray is customized to every client - and they LOVE that kind of attention. Not sure if this helps, but I hope you find the right solution for you.

Re: Sunless Airbrush Systems
I have probably done upwards of 500 applications. I have had techs using it as well. Combined we have probably done close to 1000. I get busy before beauty pageants, proms, etc. I had to replace the sprayer once because one of my techs stripped the threads on one of the internal parts when she cleaned it. Rather than just buying another gun, I just bought a whole other unit.
I have never used another HVLP unit to apply spray tan. I have used other units for woodwork finishing. If you aren't sure you would like it, do what I did. Go get one and play with it. Get your wife or girlfriend (preferably not at the same time) or kids or neighbors or employees to let you practice on them until you get comfortable. If you don't like the unit, clean it up, box it up and take it back. Lowe's will refund your huge $125 investment. Another thing that I like about it is that it does get warm. The spray is really cold when being applied. If you look at the hose going to the gun, it looks like a vacuum cleaner hose. When done with the application, I disconnect it from the gun and use it in place of a hair dryer. The air is comfortably warm, but not hot enough to worry about sweating. After air drying, I use a little baby powder under the arms and behind the knees to keep them from feeling sticky. I leave it out and tell them they are welcome to put it any where else they would like. |

Re: Sunless Airbrush Systems
OK, I ordered the lowe's system, and will try to sell the Caltan bronzer. But I forgot to ask a question to billable before I ordered it. The salon I have is attached to my home, and it is only 14 X 16.....do you think it would be too loud for that room, as the caltan one is.
