I live in a smaller town and theres only one place to get a spray tan. They tell you the day you come you should take a shower that morning and put on no lotion, no deoderent, no perfume directly on your skin, etc. Are all these precautions really neccasary? Also what is the average price for a spray on tan? Thanx

The preperation is one of the biggest factors as to how the tan comes out. Cal Tan puts out a three peice sunless kit that has a exfoliator , Extender w/bronzer & self tanners spray for touch ups & face. 95% purchase this prior the their first session.

Aloha is absolutly right!!! If you are going to get sprayed please make sure that you do not put any of these things on your skin! It will make your technician much happier and you will be 10x more pleased with your results! When deodorant and perfume come in contact with the solution....They turn green! The green washes off in the shower, but your skin is lighter there. When you put lotion on your skin it only acts as a barrier to the solution. The soln will not absorb as well if there is a oily moisturizer covering the skin. You also want to make sure that you exfoliate as well as possible. If you exfoliate well, your tan will last longer. I charge $30.00 for a tan, however for the month of august I am charging only 23. Most sprays range from $20-$35 per tan. Can be more depending on your location. Thanks

This is in our little info sheet that we give to people that want a Spray Tan.

You should shower and exfoliate at least 4 hours prior to being sprayed. If possible, apply nail polish or a clear to prevent the possibility of the nails becoming discolored by the solution

Do not apply lotions, creams, makeup, deodorant, or other products to the skin prior to being sprayed.

Wear loose fitting clothes to the session so that upon leaving, the clothing is less likely to rub off the product and
treated skin surface.

It is possible that the garments you wear during the application, and those you wear home could become stained by the tanning solution depending on the type of fabric - especially if white or light colored natural fibers.
Wash all garments upon returning home.

Do not bathe, swim or otherwise get wet for 12 hours after the application. Please avoid light colored clothing or sitting
on light colored or leather furniture for several hours. The still-active solution may transfer to materials and discolor them.

After the 12 hours, when you bathe or shower, you may notice some color washing off - this is merely the excess. Its normal, and will still leave you with a deep tan.

Keeping the skin moisturized and not exfoliating will extend the life of your tan. To achieve the darkest, longest-lasting tan, you should be spray tanned again within 2 or 3 days of the first application, then every week or two thereafter. Also, using a Tan Extender between applications will give the tanned skin a darker and more even appearance.

1 Spray Tan $28.75

2 Spray Tan's $49.75

4 Spray Tan's $79.75

8 Spray Tan's $139.75

Skin replaces itself naturally every 28 days. Twenty-five percent of skin is exfoliated each week, causing a UV-tan to wear away. Sunless spray tans affect only the top 25 percent of skin. Sunless tanners should use a tan-extending program to maintain the level of the sunless tan longer.

Exfoliating with a salt scrub or other appropriate product is recommended the day before you sunless-tan. Removing loose, dead, dry skin cells that prevent even application of sunless solution will improve and extend your tanning results.

Before sunless-tanning, your skin should be clean and dry with no soap residue to interfere with your tan. Avoid bar soap.
Do not apply deodorant or perfumes to skin prior to tanning. It is recommended you shave the day before you tan. It is recommended you remove makeup before the tanning process, but it is not absolutely necessary.
Remove any jewelry when being sprayed.
Select an old, preferably dark bathing suit to wear while being sprayed. Also remember to bring old dark-colored, loose-fitting clothing to wear home.
If you are tanning for the first time (pale skin), you should apply a product over your entire body to lower your skin’s pH level. It has been shown that a balanced pH level of skin may provide browner, more natural-looking color.
Apply a barrier cream to areas that tend to attract too much color during the spray-tan process such as cuticles, knees, elbows, hands and feet. Apply to tattoos to reduce spray’s effect and keep colors vibrant. Gently wipe off spray color from tattoos after tanning.
Although the likelihood for an allergic reaction is very small, a patch test is recommended for persons who have a known sensitivity to sunless products or the ingredients in them, including fragrances.

Very fair skin types may require a follow-up sunless application 12 to 24 hours later.

After all sunless treatments, wait at least four to five hours before bathing or exercise to allow the DHA bronzer enough time to begin the reaction process.

hmm.. at my salon, we recommend the exfoliation, shower, and shaving, however, we also recommend that a water-based lotion (such as Caltan's Total Immersion) is used on the entire body before an InstraBronze session. I have tried it both ways, and I definitely prefer using a water based moisturizer prior to application. And I even put Matahari's Envy My Flawless Face on my face beforehand. On our info sheet, it says that an even, thin layer of moisturizer will help to pull and seal in more solution. The barrier cream is also used on hands, feet, nails, etc..

I charge $25 for a single session, $45 for 2 sessions , $100 for 5 sessions and $180 for 10 sessions.

I think if I where you I'd wait until the weekend. You dont want to sweat or get wet after being sprayed.

Neon,

Why do you have to exfoliate the day before you do sunless? I always exfoliate right before the spray.
