Training

How many of you were professionally trained to spray clients? What training did you take?
For those of you that weren't professionally trained, how did you learn?

Re: Training

You can not be trained or learn to do it. And by that I mean its an art, anyone can do it but not everyone can do it well. Its like finding a decent hair stylist. Best bet is to practice, thats how you learn the best way.

But if you want training, the local museum may have classes on air-brushing. That would be a great place to start.

Re: Training

You can go to a tradeshow and have someone there train you. If you haven't deceided on a system call the ones you are looking at and ask them what is the next show in your area they will be in. I know of a bunch of them. Your profile didn't say what area you are in. So if you will tell me what area you are in I will find one close to you.

Re: Training

I am a trainer in northern california and I am constantly running into people that paid for training and did not get properly trained...here are some things to consider when paying someone for training.

How many people are in the class?
How long has the person been in the industry?
Do they train on specific equipment?
How many people will you spray in the training session?
Do they cover marketing?
How are you going to be critiqued?
Contouring? Bodybuilding Techniques?
Who are the models used for the hands-on training? Are they experienced, new to tanning?
Will they cover how the products work.

I ran into a lady from Utah last month that went to vegas paid a lot of money for training and only sprayed one person for her hands on module...what a croc!

Re: Training

I had no official training... Here's one of the before and afters I did in my first month.

If you buy equipment make sure they are going to help you learn how to operate it...but the spraying is not that hard and you will probably get the hang of it quickly. :)

Re: Training

I was trained by Scott From Fantasy Tan. He flew straight from Chicago to show me all the tricks. I then practiced on 13 friends that same day after he took his flight back to Chicago. I have yet to make anyone look bad or feel unhappy about their spray tan . Their training is outstanding and very professional to say the least. An hence.....I am successful with a spray tan only salon:)

Re: Training

A little practice is all anyone needs. Contouring takes a little more practice but otherwise there is nothing to it. Realize NO ONE is going to give you free training, it is built into the price of their system.
