Re: How big is the sunless market?

Great to hear that! I can only see it getting bigger. I just had a basal cell skin cancer taken off my face so I can't really get alot of natural sun and my doc said definitely no tanning beds. I think a lot of others are in the same boat. For me, it sunless from here on out!!! Hope things stay busy for ya!

Re: How big is the sunless market?

Jim, if my memory is correct the mistake you made was in the equipment you bought.
A second or third rate booth is not going to cut it in the sunless world. If you bought a 16 lamp sunvision beds to compete with the salon down the street that has Hp and big vhr
beds, would it be that tanning is bad or your choice of equipment was bad.

Re: How big is the sunless market?

I've got the Magic Tan booth and although I don't do a lot of sprays (I did 5 yesterday) it gives a natural glow with no orange effect. Because I'm considered a full-service salon, I feel I have to offer a spray tan of some sort and my old used Magic booth was a good choice.

You are absolutely correct. Every time my wife goes to a Derm, she finds something to cut off. I've never stepped foot in a Derm's office and never had anything cut off me. How the **** am I still alive?

I made the exact 2 same mistakes. Both are long gone.

Re: How big is the sunless market?

Exactly. Unnecessary surgery is ok but TANNING is the problem.

Man, I'm looking for a Chinese doctor when I finally go. Screw the white man and his scare tactics.

Re: How big is the sunless market?

The equipment is everything when talking about sunless. The sunless market would be 10 times the size (in tanning salons) if the sunless booths would have been perfected BEFORE they were introduced to the public.

Demand was off he scale in the beginning (2001, 2002, 2003) because there was a huge demand for sunless. The problem was so many people received inferior tans and had a horrible "experience" while in the booth that many never came back and many never tried because of this “bad press” so to speak.

Still there is a huge demand as proven by the billions that people spend on sunless products. The market is still there; people are just waiting and trying new products daily. Look at the market surge in sunless moisturizers this year as an example.

The quality of a sunless tan in today’s "modern" equipment which uses HVLP technology is worlds different than the old era booths that depended on a "fog" to cover the client who then either had to rub the solution in or wipe off the runs and streaks to try an achieve an even tan.

There are much better applications out there today. You can spot an "old school" sunless tan so easy from the stains on hands and feet to the runs down the backs of their legs. The process is vastly improved from years ago. Many of us know that, and more and more clients are finding out, the sunless industry is being built from the ground up one spray tan at a time. It will only get bigger as the equipment and solutions get better.
